Wondering if I have to outfit my rig with screens.

The only standing water at the playa is what people bring, so no mosquitoes. There might be some flies, if they happened to hitch a ride in someone's stuff.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Nope. You might see a half dozen hitch-hiker insects in the course of a playa week. Dragonflies. The odd Praying Mantis.

But careful where you pull over on your way to the event. Riverside in SE Oregon, for example, you can collect a dozen painful fly bites in 30 seconds. Don't take bathroom breaks by the road near water . . . if you can help it. :)

I wouldn't call him odd to his face though...

...he's a sensitive guy that can eat you, after all.

But yeah, the only insects you'll see on the playa are the ones that hitch a ride in or have mutated to eat you. You can go the whole event with out seeing one some years.

I've seen dragonflies.

And the mighty, but tiny ground moose.

No mosquitoes.
You want to come here for that.

No bugs (or very few) but you might want to seal up those windows to keep the dust out. It will get EVERYWHERE. :)

Might be a few horseflies and camel spiders this year, but you shouldn't have to worry unless you're in the outer ring of camps.

Typing, "No, you don't need to worry about insects" would have been a whole lot easier. . . . but I guess that wouldn't get you the self-righteous feeling of superiority.

When you've been here long enough to figure out how to get your BBCodes to work you can begin to think about criticizing veterans that get sick and tired of newbies like yourself that are too fucking lazy to do some basic research before posting their same silly questions that have been asked and answered here hundreds of times.

Now go crawl under a rock somewhere and shut the fuck up.

How's that for self righteous indignation you stupid fuck?

well, it may have been easier, but, not very helpful.
as you might glean (if you read the threads, that I gladly searched and linked, so a new person would not have to try so early), you would see there are stories of peoples encounters with "creepy/crawlies" at times in BRC.
And, to say there are none, is not accurate. no, none live there, but, they do "hitchhike" in and, folks have had encounters, not always pleasant.
So, in trying to be helpful, I did the search, posted links for the O.P. to read, and then suggested "search can be your friend" as a polite way of hinting that doing said search, would return much info, and, help a new person avoid some of the acrid snark, that at times comes here from asking questions that are easily answered with a little "self reliance" and ingenuity.

What is this? A forum, or a research library? If you didn't want answer the question, then don't click on the link. The title gave away the subject. Why subject your self to so much apparent frustration and then take it out on people who would rather communicate than be the designated "expert."

Thanx.

BWAHAHAHAHA!!

snort...

But seriously, yes insects are huge problem I hear. I would spend every extra penny on screens and insecticide bombs to set off in camp on an hourly basis.

It's both a forum and a research library. Helps to take the time to learn which way to use it prevent you from making stupid comments.

Though in defense of those who avoid the search... it is pretty terrible. Still, that's rarely the reason people ask the same questions over and over again.

Yes, search could be better, BUT that's no excuse for a newbie that doesn't know that and doesn't even try. Radical Self Reliance. So, the way I would expect a post to be written is "I tried searching for an answer to this but..."

I'm with you JK. Why not try, TRY to look for the answer in the threads first? I could understand a complex question that requires a more experienced response, but some of these are just common laziness on the part of the inquirer, Hell, you might as well ask me "Will it be hot at Burning Man?"

And to add insult to injury, most of these questions are covered in STICKY posts and the First Timers Guide or the Survival Guide. Which, I might add I read every year and I've been going for lots of years now.

Excellent question! It can both hot AND cold at the burn. Temperatures can range from an almost boiling 202 degrees farenheit in the daytime to -87 F at night. Bring that tank top AND extra sweater! You're welcome!!!!!
