2011 Survival Guide?
2011 Survival Guide?
Is this years Survival Guide available yet?
Re: 2011 Survival Guide?
Not yet. I'm guessing late(r) July, because for some reason I have it in my head that that's when last year's became available. When it's ready, it should appear here:
http://www.burningman.com/preparation/
And we will promptly all lose our minds dissecting it on ePlaya, so it won't be much of a secret.

But don't let that deter you from reading it. Basics are basics. I've been going for five or six years now and I still read all the survival and first timer stuff over each year. It's amazing how much you miss or forget from year to year.

The section on "how to behave with law enforcement" is so complicated that I have to read it every year, even though I'm very well-behaved.

Re: 2011 Survival Guide?
Somehow I always think that advice is more of a guide for what guilty people should do and say if they are stopped. If I were guilty and I was stopped, I'd probably be too high to even remember it, let alone care. Though I rarely do anything illegal, at least not in public, and I treat cops with the same respect I expect from them and I have never had any problems. I've found every encounter I have ever had with them pleasant. He'll, when I was a kid, one time I got into some trouble and the cops were even polite while arresting me.

Re: 2011 Survival Guide?
With the event just weeks away, does it not seem like the 2011 guide is a bit overdue? Reading last year's is obvious, but I'm curious what changes this year's guide will have.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Re: 2011 Survival Guide?
The BORG via their FB page just posted a picture on Tiuesday of the staff stuffing the 2011 survival guide in envelopes for mailing. I'm assuming that they are going out now and through this next week, and we should all have them in hand by the end of next week/beginning of the following. YMMV.

Nice, I didn't even realize they mailed them - I thought it was just posted to the preparation area of the main site.

Well if they have the new survival guide ready, what is keeping them from posting it?

Re: 2011 Survival Guide?
It seems to me, like everyone is less prepared this year. Including the BMorg.
Last year at this time, I was packed and ready to go, minus the raw meats. And there were spots in the coolers set aside for the frozen meats.
Or am I just hoping that I'm not the only one hella unprepared this year?

It does kinda seem that way. Announcements/resources/whatevs seem to be a few weeks delayed on all fronts.
It always amazes me though how as we sit in our corners of the earth waiting and wondering HOW it will all come together.. that somehow it does. You trust and travel and BAM.. there it is. Unreal.

Re: 2011 Survival Guide?
What? Prepared? I was just going to stock up on Big Bites at 7-11 and hit the food court in BRC. I have a tent I haven't unrolled in 10 years and I'll throw some clothes in a bag. I can just go to the laundromat during the week.illy dilly wrote:It seems to me, like everyone is less prepared this year. Including the BMorg.

What is the adventure in preparing?
(Just kidding, I have back up stakes, with back-ups. I packed mosquito repellent if I stop somewhere along the way and it happens to be buggy. I have a back-up iPod for the trip ... )

The post office here hates me and doesn't always deliver my mail. Hopefully it will arrive before I leave for BRC.Mojojita wrote:Got my Survival Guides in yesterday's mail!!!!!!!!

Sometimes a letter or something will eventually arrive with a hand-written note saying how I don't live there. I never lived anywhere with such difficult postal workers.illy dilly wrote:So they don't give you your mail?!?!Super Evil Brian wrote:The post office here hates me and doesn't always deliver my mail. My ticket arrived pronto (much better than the buying disaster, but that horse is long dead and very beaten) with no problems.

Paper version TOC has incorrect page numbers for several items. It's fixed in the online version.

Why not use a guide from a previous year?
