Cut Your Expectations

Post by calsur » Tue Jul 13, 2004 12:43 am

Time is now running out to get to the Playa. What seemed really doable back in January is maybe not doable in July. I ditched the parachute over my 10’ by 20’ carport from Costco in favor of having rebar stakes for my carport. The carport will take 12 stakes 3 feet long and bending the stakes is not working. I want the “J” shaped stakes but the crud I buy from the big box hardware store just breaks when I try to bend it. My 5 day ice chest’s only last 3 day sitting in a garage in cool temperatures. Depressing but I will perceiver.

And now to the meaning of this post. It might be the time to cut your losses on stuff that will not make it to the Playa and concentrate on what will help you to survive on the Playa.

Just my opinion. Tootles.

I am, as of yet, unwilling to punt on any plans.

Give me a week, though... the panic should set in by then...

And last year I promised myself I wouldn't let a last minute rush happen.

to be honest... my plans have been *much* more modest this year compared to previous.

I have some shit to sew (oh fuck... gotta do some tonight) and I have to repair a spar in the dome.

I'm not worrying too much about costuming this year and instead of some ambitious art piece I'm helping decorate a camp.

Pack it all up, buy food and water... and I'm there.

weehoo, me too. I found going to a regional this year really helped to get my ass in gear with plenty of time to spare. I'm on cruise control now baby!

oh, except for that whole 'yeah man, like, we'll have 20-30 people in our camp this year' notion. But I wasn't buyin' that shit from the get go.

Started working about 3 months ago on various projects to come in a few weeks early this time around. About a couple weeks away from finishing my main project. So feeling pretty good.

The golf cart mock up of Skylab-- one month ago.

Not giving up on the Dream Machine yet...
Have to test the PVC structure that will be the main shade on Saturday. And the one for the bicycle on the week after that.

The rest of the time will be for finding costumes and making up hours here at work.
It's about beer O'clock guys....where's my riot?

We came to the realization a couple nights ago that our art project will have to wait another year. Our calendar...

7/24 get married
7/26 - 8/1 honeymoon
8/18 school starts (wife is a kindergarten teacher)
8/29 leave for burning man

Just don't see time for an art project in there!

Prep list

Post by robbidobbs » Tue Jul 13, 2004 2:09 pm

1) just got back from 9 days at Rainbow, and could probably wash, fold and throw the exact same supplies back into my truck for BM. Time: 1-2 days
2) need to purchase ink jet printer to print pottie signs and scarf iron-ons. Time 1-2 days
3) decided to change poop patrol uniform from full skirt to wide pants. Now need to make same. Time: 1-2 days.

Priority now is to get over this damn cold. Diphthehydramine is my friend!

Almost ready to panic

Post by Rage » Tue Jul 13, 2004 3:02 pm

Started working on what to take off the checklist. The Creeping Eye is in progress and can still be finished with a major cash influx. But who knows, still gonna register it.

The gas generator can possibly be by-passed for an inverter which is cheaper. We don't really need to run anything but a little stereo and some party lights, and lamps to see at night...can go propane and battery.

The carport shade stucture is affordable. The bases can screw into 2'x2' plywood and then secured with plastic trash bag sand bags. Do you think rebar stakes through drilled holes in the plywood would be needed with the sand bags?

Decided to just bring CDs for DJing.

Still got one ticket, 2 airfares, minivan rental and food, wine, booze, megabeer and water to pay for...and a budget for brain food.
