Newlyweds going to BM for the first time

Post by yavank » Wed Aug 18, 2004 3:46 pm

Hello Everyone,
My husband and I are going for the first time this year. This experience is soo long over do and I cant wait!! We're renting an RV and coming from San Diego.

Any suggestions or advice would be great.

Is anyone coming from San Diego?

How long do most people go for?

Thanks :)

Well Burning Man can be the true test on relationships. The severe weather and differing ideas about what to do and how much time to spend together can test relationships of all kinds.

After reading all the guides and other info that you can find online, I would recommend having a honest chat beforehand about expectations. Then be prepared for anything and everything. You can't possibly predict what will really happen when you get there but it might be good to know what things might or might not be OK with your partner. For example, you might feel like running around naked and your wife might have a problem with that, or not.

Congrats and I really hope that you two have an amazing time and learn new and wonderful things about each other.
Be the change you seek in the world.

Stormy, thanks for replying. The funny thing is that I think my husband will actually encourage me to run around naked. May even be disapointed if I dont

I'm even thinking that we shoud get married again at BM. We just got married a month ago on the beach in Bora Bora. So I figure why not do it at BM? Just a thought. But it sounds like it would be an amazing experience.

Check out the RV threads from this year and last year - lot's of useful information.
Running around nude is fun, but I recommend putting some effort into costumes, both for the hot weather during the day, and for cool to cold weather at night.
You will also want to bring playa gifts of some kind - could be a good joke, a performance, art, or some material thing to give away. There is an amazing amount of generosity and you will want to participate.

I highly recommend getting married on the playa. We had a wedding in Vegas and then a wedding at Burning Man. If you invite guests, expect that some will be running on playa time and be late. Or there could be a dust storm at your intended time. But if you're willing to be very flexible, there's nothing like tying the knot admist the wonderful energy of BM.
Be the change you seek in the world.

OH MY GOSH I HAVE GOOSE BUMPS!

My husband and I celebrated our honeymoon at Burning Man in 2001 and have returned every year since!
Congratulations!!!!
I was a little worried, because I had read a bunch of things talking about how hard BM is on relationships, and I’m only speaking for myself, I think that its the loviest place in the whole wide world. My husband and I are like newlyweds every year. I guess it all depends on how the relationship is to begin with, but if you’re best buddies, you’re going to have the time of your life. You're so far from the every day world that you don't think about bills and laundry and junk like that, you just share amazing moments and get all mushy and lovey in the middle of the playa. You'll take good care of each other, and that’s part of the fun. Stay hydrated, hold hands, hug new friends, and kiss a lot!

I’m so happy for you, best of luck. It's an amazing entrance into married life.

We just got married a few weeks ago. We'll be doing Honeymoon Camp, probably located on Saturn at around 3:45. Come on by for some cheap champagne served from Dixie cups!

Hi! We're coming from San Diego, and we "might" be getting married at BM this year. I haven't decided yet if that's what I want to do...I think I'd rather honeymoon there. I saw several weddings and newly weds last year and it was beautiful. Congratulations and welcome.
