BM tradition: gift the gate and greeters.

Post by shitmouse » Sat Aug 28, 2004 5:36 pm

as a long time tradition, for those of you that have not left,
please gift the gate people and greeters a bottle of (good) wine or (good) vodka, t'is tradition. a bottle per person(s) in your vehicle is (our) rule. also gift your local DPW. and recycle at recycle camp.

have fun!

this year I got mini cocktail bottles of vodka, rum, gin ect. and put them in plastic baggies, 4 shots per bag. They can either drink 'em straight or wait for someone to gift 'em a cold mixer.

btw..love the new avatar shitmouse..he looks like someone I can get Imperial and funky with.
I am a bit tied up at the moment...but if you leave your name and number.....

Damn, I've already packed and the good stuff is buried deep. I'll only have cheap beer and some frozen treats easily available when we arrive. If it's as cold as the forecast seems the frozen treats might not go over so well.

Being virgins, is it ok if we don't have an extra bottle of Absolut to give them or can we gift them a few drinks later, after we've unpacked, or ... what exactly is the protocol?

Don't worry too much about it safety, make sure that you announce that you are a virgin tho and the greeters will give you something nice  ...if they have time.

This is something that people who have been to Burningman before like to do because they are so happy to be home. They are ready to jump into the spirit of the event and part of that is giving something of yourself that means something, it doesn't have to be booze, you can get out and dance with them or strip naked and run around.

Although keeping the greeters/gate staff drunk will make for an interesting entry.

Have a great burn.

My favorite gift for the greeters is a 4 pack of ice cold Tetleys... that a the only slightly cold pizza I pick up for them.

Upon my exodus (we run a bar out there), they are gifted with much beer, wine, and alcohol. All of our surplus goes to DPW. I also make at least one run during the week with a goody bag for the greeters.

haha, thanks silken on the avatar. (it's just up for the burn week. then back to my pinhole photos).

don't sweat it too much safety, years ago we started that particular gifting, and have really made some people stoked. like the year we pulled up at 3:30 a.m. and it was freezing out. there was 1 girl at the gate, and she was cold and had been "on watch" for 13 hours straight, so when she got her bottle of vodka, she almost cried with joy. (she actually got 2).

just something we do, that drums up a great amount of energy and karma.
