Post-burn Reno Hotel

Post by Chowski » Tue Aug 13, 2013 10:28 am

Anyone have a suggestion for a post-burn Reno hotel (or, more likely, motel) which is reasonably clean and cheap with no advance purchase?

Specifically, my boyfriend and I don't know when we'll pack it in this year. Our first year (2009), we stayed until the Temple burn, drove to Reno and pulled into the first Motel 6 we saw to sleep and shower, but last year, we were done by Thursday afternoon, and drove straight back to Sacramento without stopping.

We're not sure when we will be "done" with 2013, so we can't reserve a motel. So, what's your pick? A place to lay down and shower off, maybe a pool. And of course, cheap. I'd like to have this info in my back pocket, just in case.

Any "special" Sleez-ee Motel you can recommend?

when it comes to reno.. motels arent cheap (in comparison to the other options)

casinos are cheaper.. (plus they have on-site amenities such as food and drink)

pick a date... find a nice casino hotel that has rates on par with, or cheaper than a motel.. stuff yer face with room service and all that fun stuff..

plan to leave on the date you picked..

harrahs, downtown, lets you cancel up to the day before your stay.......... so if yer booked in 9/2 on Monday youd have until saturday 8/31 at 11:59pm to cancel without paying the $42 or whatever the room is.

I've heard a bunch of NY burners are doing Sands... I think the prices were south of $40... From the email thread it seems that it was a good deal.

Louise and I have stayed at the Gold Dust West:

It's simple and clean, no pool that I recall. It's across the street from an excellent local restaurant.

Casino hotels are your best bet. I didn't have a post burn reservation and just called around on my way back to Reno till I found one with a big soaking tub.

Definitely do the calling around bit - once you hit Wadsworth (or once you get good phone service), start calling around & checking rates. If you want to be proactive you can print up a list of casinos to put in your glove-box & then go through that on your way into town. You should be able to find something reasonable.

One thing - if you're in an RV, make sure you check with the casino to see if they have RV parking. If not, you may be driving around a bit looking for a place to park.

And get a "slot card" for that casino before checking in.

Lots of discounts and maybe one for the room, or a free breakfast. 8)

Yes they are free and you don't have to use them.

They use them to track your play and send out promotions like free nights, but you usually get something just for signing up. 8)

Here's a starting point, but you need to call to get details as they don't always want everybody to know what they are giving away.

So what you're saying is that staying at the casino may pay for the entire trip? Let it ride.....

i am a strict anti-gambler.. for no real reason

but in terms of reno.. i am a LEECH sucking the blood of the gamblers who subsidize my cheap hotel rooms thatd be like $100 in most any other town.

thanks, gamblers!

its shocking to look at rates of the motels around reno, especially just out of town.. friggen $70-80 on nights where a room downtown would be $40 ..

gambling sure does help pay the bills.

I like Harrah's Reno. They have one of the few restaurants that offer table side cooking. It's called The SteakHouse.

i like it as well..

i started going when i took the train.. it was the PERFECT location for amtrak goers.. as its literally across the street from the station..

i liked it.. and i keep going back each year.

the rooms are decent (if a bit dated in the decor dept) ...the room service is damned tasty (if a bit pricy. but after 12 days on the playa 20$ for a huge bacon cheeze burger and fries seems awfully reasonable) and the staff is quite friendly as well..

they got an onsite little shop for drinks/snacks.... and restaraunts/bars for relaxing a bit outside of the room.

theres usually not all too many burners that ive seen over the years... shared a few drinks with a burner one year.. but often, its pretty 'back to normal' which is exactly what im really going for when im done with the burn...

reasonable room rates too...... ive never paid more than $45 in over 5 years

The GF and I stay at Harrah's every year on the way back, both of us have players cards there. If the room isn't completely free, it's like twenty bucks or something. They are damn near empty from Labor Day on, it's perfect timing for burnt burners. The Nugget is across the street and has a killer burger, goes by the name "awful awful", I highly recommend it...

I've got a "7 Stars" card!

I'm not allowed to stand in lines or pay for anything.
