They never stop either - every time I sleep anyplace other than my default world bed I wake up thinking I'm on the playa (well possibly more like half awake sleep walking). I happened again this weekend while camping, my wife woke up in the middle of the night while I was standing in the middle of my tent and asked what I was doing. I asked if I was on the playa and she said yes, so I got back in bed and went back to sleep. This never happens to me on the playa though.
Awesome... another way to wake up my GF in the middle of the night for no apparent reason.

3D printed a bunch of D-rings to sew around the waist of my kilt. I'll be able to snap 8-10 items on there and rattle around like tambourine!

I'm merging the job thread with this one - the term item is used fairly loosely (like an item on a checklist), and also applies to getting jobs done.

Good luck with the trailer, Unjon!

Job-wise, I've got a bunch more video footage from previous years' burns that I still need to get through. Time permitting, I want to try and get through a bunch of that. My gf and I are also hoping to finish up the second of a couple coats we're making for an event this weekend as well as the playa. I'll post pics in the playawear thread when I get time to go through 'em.

3 brand new 8-ply trailer tires, including spare. Increased my tire weight capacity by 820 lbs. from the last set.

Wore the last ones bald until one blew out on the final outing last year.

Usually trailer tires rot and fall apart long before wearing out... not on my itinerary

Joel, as everyone has said, a well prepared virgin is one of the best gifts out there. Just bring yourself, have fun, and accept gifts graciously. Next year you'll have a much better idea of what you can do or bring. Remember, a gift can also be helping someone pound rebar or set up their tent in a whiteout.

Last year, I was out in the deep playa and ran across this guy who looked like he had been out all night and was trying to drag his dehydrated ass back to camp. I gave him a bottle of water which he drank immediately. (I always carry a couple extra bottles of water with me) He started digging in his backpack for something to gift me back and I said no worries, just helping him with some water made me feel good. He pulled out 3 brownish red rocks out of his pack and gave them to me. He apologized that rocks were all he had for a gift. He told me they were from the Moab desert and my eyes lit up. I'm somewhat of a rock hound and collect rocks and sand from everywhere I can. I was very happy to add these unique rocks to my collection.

I guess my point here is that "anything" can be an awesome gift, even a rock.
I love this story!! Thanks so much for sharing :)

3 large bags of chicken quarters baked, boned, and bagged. 3 one gallon freezer bags were filled with boned chicken and put in freezer. I crave protein and salt on the Playa. Chicken as a base can be made into a wide variety of dishes, or eaten cold. Meat = one item done.

Today I'm testing a pulled pork recipe to serve on polenta for the night I'll be cooking at our camp. Crockpot is filling the house with the most delicious smells.

I'd be doing more for the Playa except I have three road trips to plan and do before August so...a bit preoccupied with that. Life is good busy!

Sewed white fairy lights on the fur collar of my playa coat, and filled and corked my glass vials of Baker Beach sand.

But.... plane ticket? Burner Express ticket? Bike? Container space? Nah, haven't done any of that useful shit yet.

Made a couple of lacy layers using tights (one pair snake skin/fishnets, one pair black lace). Worked great.

The pulled pork came out a bit too sweet, and not smoky enough. It also was too mushy served on Polenta so I'm back to the coleslaw idea. I think I'll just serve it the traditional way (on buns) and make sure I can do it soon after my husband brings the buns to camp.

On a more stressful note, I dropped the VainVan and CandyHome Trailer off at the mechanic's for a safety check before my first road trip of the Summer (Seattle) and alas, problems with the brake lights on both vehicles! Mechanic popped off the trailer light caps and *POOF* clouds of Playa sitting in there. I had to run to the hardware store for some vineagar. Here's hoping the electrical is not seriously affected and the $$ won't hurt too bad. SIGH! This is after major veterinarian bills in April.

You guys make me happy. Thank you for all the love.

Today I wound more yarn for the arm knitting session. Completely brainless meditation type activity. Also finished another painting for anti m's home for wayward art. I really like this one.

Heading to our regional tomorrow. Used today as a trial run for loading the car with all my stuff. I'll be bringing more stuff to BMan of course, but won't be dealing with the kid clothes/tent/beds/chairs and carseats. That will free up plenty of space to use for the extra requirements for BMan. I'll have the entire back seat for more stuff. My big goal was to do it without loading anything on the roof - those crosswinds on I-80 through Wyoming are nasty for high profile vehicles. So far so good!
