Looking for wedding officiant in Gerlach (DPW crew??)

At this year's Burn, I met the love of my life, and we have this grand plan to return to where we met (Playa Info) and get married in the dust.

Like, next week.

I realize that DPW is still out there. If I'm really lucky, we could find a DPW person to officiate and another to witness. Or perhaps an officiant from Gerlach? I'm open to any suggestions that fellow Burners may have.

I think your best bet is to get in touch with the Reno regional group, find an officiant who knows NV law and can get all the paperwork sorted out, and bring that someone out there with you. The few staffers on site at this point are unlikely to have the credentials you're looking for, and most likely really busy getting work done and not checking the site. Failing that, go for a civil ceremony in your state of residence and make plans for a big playa celebration at next year's event.

The event site is generally pretty locked-down post-event. Unless you have a real burning reason to be there right now (IE: Massive camp infrastructure left behind and still being packed out, still tearing down Esplanade/10 or 2 camp, or doing Resto) I really doubt they would let you in to the city, much less all the way up to where Playa info used to be standing. Even then, I heavily doubt anyone except for Strike and Resto crews are on the playa right now, as all major camps probably finished tearing down the week after the event. These crews are generally crazy busy, working almost around the clock to make sure we can have the event next year. I'd venture to guess that unless you had some serious personal connections to the crews, they wouldn't let you back in to do this, much less have a hypothetical officiant from DPW tie the knot.

I'd say that your best bet is to wait until next years event, and spend all year planning the best playa wedding you could possibly do, and then have a massive blowout wedding event on playa next year. Imagine - instead of emptiness and cranky crews wondering why would bother them with this, you could surround yourselves with thousands of your closest friends/strangers, wear some zany clothes, and do it right!

You've known the love of your life for less than a month. Ever hear the adage "Marry in haste, repent at leisure"? There are plenty of people who've rushed into marriage with someone they met on holiday only to find out that it was one humungeous mistake. Yes, sometimes these things do work out, but if you truly are the loves of each others lives, waiting 11 months and 2 weeks won't change that. The very rush you are in sounds like a warning sign to me.

Thanks everybody for their feedback, we do appreciate it!

We ended up checking into resources amongst the Reno Burner community, and here's what we decided to do:

1). We will go out to the playa (anywhere on playa that we can), for the formal proposal and to hang out for an hour or two.

2). Then, we're going back to Reno to the Morris Burner Hotel for a simple marriage ceremony on their "mock playa".

This will be next Thursday, and any and all are welcome to join us for the festivities.
