Hey Joe, do you go up there every weekend? I moved to Stagecoach, NV so I'm only about an hour drive from the playa. Would love to go up some weekend.

Hiya Pink! Welcome to NV, you're just down the road from us. We would have grabbed you for our trip last Thursday had I known.
Now that it's hot, we'll be headed to the Sierras more than the Playa. The next fer sure overnight will be Aug14? for the Friends of Black Rock Perseid's Meteor Shower campout. PM me for coffee or a cocktail next time you're in town (Carson City).

I guess I forgot to post this..... from June 15th:

This was posted on the Juplaya FB page. Even though the water was only a few inches deep at this time, the amount of water that is moved by the wind is mind boggling.

2nd time better than the first. And the first was pretty Freakin' Great!

WTF dude?

What part of big heavy bus and Playa mud confused you? Looks like the kind of person who attempts to drive through a "dry" wash in a rainstorm.

I hope BLM gave him a little shovel & made him fill in his ruts before leaving.

I hear it was still pretty wet. Now we know.

I hope the bus is still there in 6 weeks, so we can mock the driver ourselves. 8)

He took that all the way to the Playa to sink it? I did the same with Millicent the Blue Bird in my own back yard a couple months ago, and bent the bumper in the process. Amateur. :P

(Wanted to buy; Blue Bird school bus rear bumper.)

By the way.... In BRC, I usually park Millicent on four thick slabs of plywood, just in case of a deluge.

But Elliot, your a pro. We expect no less and you never disappoint :-)

I wash everyone was as concerned about protecting the Playa from their vehicles rather than protecting their vehicles from the Playa. Both are important but one gets little thought.

Now the big question is Will the Playa be dry enough for us or will we end up like he Bus up to it's axles in mud?

Now that you mention it.... I also put two full sheets of thin plywood under Millicent to catch oil drips. It simply makes good sense, and costs so little.

Reports say there were/are at least a dozen vehicles stuck out there.. The buss was on the north end somewhere.

The building of the Man and the Temple (as well as Center Camp) will be starting very soon. There will be some very heavy cranes and machinery driving on the playa. Let's keep hoping for hot, dry, sunny weather.

You know, if all the lookie-lous keep driving out to the playa to scope it out for themselves, it's going to be real dusty with lots of ruts when the event rolls around. Stay home and concentrate on getting your shit together.

And I guarantee that if there's a rut out there I will find it with my bike at night.

Something like that always happens when you're riding a bike.

If anyone wants to go out there and carve some ruts before it's too late ...

Here is the closure area map from the BLM that kicks in on the 31st.

That crunchy stuff is going to turn into a lot of dust when it gets crunched up. Whiteouts! :D
