Can you help me find this Burner?

Post by Orghua » Fri Jan 28, 2005 4:58 pm

I met someone at BM2002 I would like to visit again if possible. I was wandering back from the playa after the burn probably not too far from centre camp and I stumbled across a theme camp with a large white rectangular tent and many couches inside. There were two (4 square) pyramids out in the front corners of the camp that appeared to emit music. There was also a large barrel of Capri Sun drinks by the road for people to help themselves from. Inside was a wonderful gentleman who was playing beautiful music from a small phone booth like DJ booth, lit with low blue light inside. The music was all extreme chill and ambient, and profoundly relaxing. The guy Djing, and who appeared to run the camp was oldish, maybe 50-65 or so, with, if I remember correctly long grey hair and beard but this might not be exact. I spoke with him and he mentioned he was an old time Burner, I think he said he was a 6 or 8 year veteran which would put him back to about 94-96. He said his mission was to provide a relaxing chill space to weary burners, people who needed to dry out or chill after a night of dancing or overdoing it. He was incredibly kind and soothing to talk to, and he gave me a small rune. It was a small frosted glass bead with two ~ symbols written on it with blue marker.

I want to go back and chill in his space this year if at all possible and bring him something. It was my first year in 02 and he made such a great impression on me. Ive been looking out for his camp the last two years but havent found him. Any help directing me to him would be greatly appreciated.

Peace out,

That would be our friend and campmate at the time Papa DJ. That year we were Cleopatra's Barge on the outer circle of center camp. In 2003 we were DreamCatcher at 6:30 and the Esplanade and last year he was part of Deep Heaven at 4:40 or so and the Esplanade.

If you post nearer to the event I will watch for you and let you know where he is going to be this year if he is going to be there. FYI: He is shaved with shorter hair now.

I will pass on your post I am sure he will be thrilled to hear he made a difference in your experience, he is a wonderful man and you are a sweetheart to remember and care...

I sent Papa DJ your message and this was his reply:

"I have my tickets for this year and have all the intention in the world of DJing once again. I didn't see an email address to contact the traveler directly so if someone has it, please pass this on. If he's from Salem, you might mention I've moved to Brookings, OR (www.wildwoodhimitage.com) This is what BM is all about. Thanks.
