Car Talk on the Playa?!?
Car Talk on the Playa?!?
The Event got a mention on "Car Talk" this weekend! I think Tom and Ray'd have a pretty good time out there- and they're fond of Honda Elements, which makes 'em alright by me.

They were offering advice to a woman pilot/adventurer (who sounded pretty cool) about old Westphalia campers and automotive tinkering....They suggested that there'd be plenty of gearheads at Burning Man that could assist her since she was going to BRC anyway. Shockingly, they omitted any reference to "Whackos" or other burner-descriptive terms, and (presumably jokingly) said, "See you at Burning Man".
Since they're NPR celebrities would they be granted access to Celebrity Camp, where they can party with Jerri Manthey? That'd be swell.

Funny...this same topics came up in the Bay Window Bus forum on www.thesamba.net
we have been talking about aircooled vehicles in the desert and some BM related things on that thread.

Hey robotland... that’s the third time I’m heard Click and Clack mention the event. One time a dude called in and they asked him where he was planning on driving the car in question. He said, “Burning Man, you guys ever hear of Burning Man?”
They replied, quite emphatically, “Oh, yeah... we know about Burning Man!”
I have a hunch...

Burning Man and Car talk
I was actually the first to bring up Burning Man to the Tapet brothers, theyd never heard of it. On air we discussed what can be done to get the harsh alkilie desert off your car for an article I was writing for the Black Rock Gazette. You wash it and it still leaves a white film on everything. It was summed up that to use vinegar in a diluted spary solution helped break it down. Actually worked!

Hey robotland...
I’m listening to Car Talk today and someone mentioned driving through Winnemucca. Clak (or maybe Click... I’m never sure which is which) pipes up and says, again emphatically,
“Winnemucca!?! I’ve been to Winnemucca.”
Hmm... curiouser and curiouser Heh, Heh, Heh...
