Same politics as last year
My burn last year was just about ruined b/c I questioned my "camp mates" about where everyone's dues were going. To make a long story short I narrowly avoided a physical confrontation by some of the more thuggish camp members (does every camp have them???) and went solo for the last 3 days.
This year I thought I joined the right camp, the questions about camp dues/transparency (where the $$$ is going) were all answered in the affirmative. Now that it's time to spend the money (about $32,000) all the sudden plans start changing and where the money is going is not clear. For example, we were supposed to rent 5 ryder trucks @ roughly $1,400 each. Now we only need 2 b/c we have more people toting trailers/cargo. Right there we should have a savings of about $4,200 which I suggested we use for bringing fresh foods (fruits, vegetables, and meats (chicken, fish) ect. The camp leader's response was "we don't have the money." When I pointed out we're saving over $4k and we should have $1,500 to buy FRESH foods I get the run around, vague answers, and now no answers.
Is it that hard to be honest and just tell the camp where the money is going???

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Didn't you post this same crap under a different user name last year around this time?? If it wasn't you, it sounds very trollish similar...
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

Note to self: Most burners are complete flakes when it comes to money. If you want accounting for the money, you need honest *accounting* for the money, as in "here is this months P&L for the camp. Here are the expenses. Here are the account statements for anyone to see". You run it like a company, complete with governance and minutes, etc.
You clearly didn't have that. Not now. Not then.
Not to put too fine of a point on it, but how many more times will you need to have this discussion with yourself before you finally decide this game is rigged and you don't want to play it anymore? 3? 4?
Start a camp of your own. Do it right. Believe me, if you do it RIGHT, you won't have to shop very far for campmates.

Start your own camp with people you know, whose values and vision you some-what share, let it grow organically, even if you only start with one person in that camp. It doesn't need to be a business, it doesn't need to be that big. Joining big camps is over-rated. The big camps bring plenty, and I am obliged to them, but it's not for everyone. It's not required to join a camp. You can always go the camping in the desert route. Next year invest in that, you might have more fun.
No, there are no thugs in our camp.

Nominate yourself as treasurer and then tell them you're going to have to see all the books in order to complete your camp-wide audit.

Maybe you could hook up with Camp Hotel Rug? They're sort of informal and it doesn't cost anything.honesty_13 wrote:Wow - that was fast!! You are with the same people again?
I think in that case you are the one who needs to be answering questions.
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Fool me three times, I guess I like getting abused.
