ePlaya Meet and Greet 2013 - What are you doing?
Re: ePlaya Meet and Greet 2013 - What are you doing?
Try a twist on the wall anger
Harvey Headbanger
5 parts OJ
3 parts Vodka
4 parts Gin
1 part Galliano

Mad as a box of frogs.......oranges!
Re: ePlaya Meet and Greet 2013 - What are you doing?
Good tip! Thank you.Drawingablank wrote:You don't see many folks ordering wallbangers these days but they are delicious. What your recipe doesn't mention is that you mix the OJ and Vodka (make a screwdriver), then float the Galiano on top for best results.Savannah wrote:I had to look up Galliano to see what it was.Ratty wrote:Is it silly of me to bring Galliano? There's a bottle at my work in the liquor room behind the door. We stopped serving it 4 years ago. Also a bottle of white creme de menthe. (Makes great mouthwash). That one you can mix with hot choc to make 'Girl Scout Cookies'.Sweet and vanilla-y. It might not be bad on the rocks, but it sounds like it's very sweet.
The simplest drink one can make with it seems to be the Harvey Wallbanger.
45ml (3 parts) Vodka
15ml (1 part) Galliano
90ml (6 parts) fresh orange juice
(It's just a sample recipe; I've never made one.)
I find screwdrivers too bitter, because I like orange juice so much (seriously, it's like taking something perfect and making it taste kinda bad, if admittedly Drunkening). Seriously: If presented with both vodka and orange juice I would drink swift shots and chase them with delicious unadulterated juice.
So the Galliano would probably actually be quite nice as a sweetener--but I suppose it would be good to use a light hand until an average dose is established.
Indeed, Ratty could team up with AntiM's Larry . . . he was the one making them last time.It is way too sweet to drink straight up imho, but would probably be good on snow cones if we will be having those again this year.

Last year the Honey Jack Daniels was also a big hit on the snow cones. I plan to bring more this year.

I'll bring some bottles of homemade blueberry wine and an orange metheglin.

I was thinking of bringing a pan of grilled brats on roasted peppers and onions - maybe some buns if I have the freezer space.

How do you convince the brats to get on the grill? The brats around here just throw trash around and cuss a lot.

I do remember trying your honey JD for the first time last year ( i think it only launched in Australia early this year) We had it again recently on a trip to the snow - kept it in the freezer & drank it very cold & neat...went down a treat:)Drawingablank wrote:Last year the Honey Jack Daniels was also a big hit on the snow cones. Honey JD goes really well in my bacon-bourbon jam instead of bourbon. Problem, though......If I don't make a big batch of Jam or use an airline bottle's worth, I'm usually quite wasted upon completing the cooking.

1 shot Sloe Gin
1 shot Southern Comfort
1 shot Vodka
1 shot Galliano
To top Orange Juice
METHOD
Add 1 shot of vodka, 1 shot of Southern Comfort, 1 shot of sloe gin and 1 shot of Galliano to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake gently and strain into a highball glass with ice. Top up glass with orange juice.

Maybe Ratty could team up with someone . . . 'cause those are a lot of ingredients.

Ok Rhino - I'll bring some Vitamin T, special for shots.

Re: ePlaya Meet and Greet 2013 - What are you doing?
I'll be bringing a very special bottle from our one-and-only Delle, given to me a couple of weeks and a few thousand miles ago, before she knew she could go. It's called Sortilege, and is described as 'Canadian Whisky and Maple Syrup Liqueur'. We partook of some with her back there, and, I must say, it's quite tasty! I'll bet it would be really nice over snow or shaved ice!
Now, I'm working on getting her here to do the pouring at the meet'n'greet, in person!
I'll be bringing other yummies, too... Just not sure yet what they'll be.

So I had a career change back in March. At my last job I was on Eplaya everyday, and knew what was going on with every thread. Since then I've kind of lost track of threads and haven't been able to keep up with every page on every topic. With that (and due to laziness) I'm wondering if there is some code word/phrase or other some such that I need to know for me and my +1 to pass through the velvet ropes. I'm still thinking of what to bring since I'm not a cook either, or a boozer, so mixers or cheese & bread for grilled cheese? Or cheese & crackers? I do feel a bit overwhelmed what with bacon chutney & stuffed jalapeños & steak-in-a-bag (damn I'm curious about that one!), and other homemade stuff being tossed about!

Well, being costumically challenged, I suppose I'll have to come as myself. However, due diligence, pressure from daughter and just darn contrariness, I seem to have the rib smoker functioning reasonably well. So, I'll be spending the afternoon babysitting 6 racks of baby back ribs. Unfortunately, since they will take some 5 hours of care, only one batch is coming to the M&G. Assuming I don't "fall asleep" during tending; then they'll be late. Or the smoker will catch fire.
Which would at least lead to a story to be shared.
