We could all wear red armbands which would not only identify us as eplayans, it would also fit in with the host camp's theme.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Re: ePlaya Meet and Greet 2013 - What are you doing?
From what I read about last years M&G everyone was happy with it. Everyone got to eat the food and it wasn't gobbled up in 10 seconds flat. I don't think you will ever be able to keep out all non eplayans without putting up walls/sheets to hide the event. Everyone sees a party going on and they want to be a part of it. Oh shit........does that make us the cool kids?International Incident wrote:Last year having the bouncers stopping the riff raff popping in worked quite well - but there was still a bunch of non eplayans who skulked in.
Not everyone will RSVP, not everyone will have a pre made name tag (hey dealing with a bunch of hopeless hippies here), so what to do...
I propose a question for those wanting entry to the M&G (if they don't have a pre made name tag, on the list etc). But what should the question be.
Should it be a code word?
Should it be being able to name Simon's socks?
Should there be a secret dance?
What do you think?

Whatever was done last year to ensure it was ePlayans-only was effective. I believe there was a table by the door where folks had to introduce themselves. It wouldn't keep out a determined crasher, but most folks aren't that way.
In any event, the food lasted for quite some time.

Re: ePlaya Meet and Greet 2013 - What are you doing?
We can all thank Mel (International Incident) for a terrific job of ensuring that security was on top of everything and keeping most of the poachers at bay. Some people tried thanking me for doing such a good job, but I must humbly say I had little to do with it. Mel was and is a Godsend and her demeanor and selfless attitude made the Meet & Greet the success that it was. Thank you my friend, you did a wonderful job.Savannah wrote:Whatever was done last year to ensure it was ePlayans-only was effective. Re: ePlaya Meet and Greet 2013 - What are you doing?
I like the wristband idea but the logistics of getting them all out before the M&G would just add complications, I'm not sure how it was done last year other than we had someone at the door but that seemed to work out fine. Not having it in the who, what, where helped a bit too.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

What we need is a couple of people with clipboards outside the meet'n'greet, asking passersby why they didn't crash. Then we'd be set for 2014...

I'm looking for a volunteer (or two) to help with sorting out the spreadsheet of who is doing what and organizing the quote game. Basically I just need someone to go back through the posts and update the spreadsheet - here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... sp=sharing and someone to help with the quote game.
It would be great to get a new person involved - and possibly someone who doesn't post very much but lurks in the background...
You can PM me if you don't want to put your hand up in public.

Re: ePlaya Meet and Greet 2013 - What are you doing?
Maybe these non-eplayans and the riff-raff need to have a meet and greet party put on especially for them. I don't know where we'd advertise the event because anybody reading this here is an eplayan be default. Also, I don't know how we could logistically exclude all non-non-eplayans other than those helping to put on the event. Our camp could conceivably host this event, but it would be a risk to get a whole party worth of stuff and not have enough show up without an RSVP system in place. We could hold some kind of a "Meet and Greet for the Rest of Us" fundraiser to help pay for it.

I was considering the possibility that they would enjoy the exclusive feeling of attending a gala at Burning Man that has bouncers to keep other people out. I don't want to start a big debate; I just wanted to offer those people the same thing. Maybe we could award tickets via a lottery if demand is high. The tickets can be given by the bouncers at the official M&G parties.

don't be offended by the "bouncer" stuff. The M&G is a bloody big event and we put on a lot of very tasty food and booze. A couple of years ago the event got swamped by others that hadn't contributed. The M&G is two hours of "roped off time" in one camp - hardly the end of the world as we know it...
And since you are active on eplaya are you going to come to the M&G?
Re: ePlaya Meet and Greet 2013 - What are you doing?
I don't know much about the Meet & Greets. I thought is was open only to those who host Meet & Greet parties themselves.

It's not a matter of social exclusion whatsoever. If the strangers who had shown up had contributed to the party--had been participants--it wouldn't have been a problem, and people wouldn't have said jack shit.
This event is open to all on ePlaya. That's upwards of . . . what, 44,000 logins, including some sockpuppets and busy international spammers, from all walks of life.

Re: ePlaya Meet and Greet 2013 - What are you doing?
Have to agree, I was hanging up by our "bouncers" and alot of "leaches" came by. They just were on the look out for free food and booze. Kinda looked like the burned a little to hard and came under prepaired wanting the playa to take care of them all week. But there was a few who were just there cause it looked fun and they understud. I do how ever love the drunk or drugged couple who gave us fake eplaya names to get in then when in they had no idea what eplaya was. Party crashes lol

Speaking of accordions....
If you'd like to volunteer to do or bring anything feel free to post here or IM me. Got a list going.
Could use:
Food
Booze
Cleanup
Nude pictures (sent via IM is fine)
I'll sign myself up to bring booze. Kids these days seem to like it. Maybe Tito's vodka.
What are good general use mixers people can bring? Soda?
