Given the position of the circle of altars, I don't think they'll be replacing the CORE (Circle of Regional Effigies) art pieces, despite the overlap in ideas. What with the circle of altars, the CORE circle, the city itself, and the Man in the center, the city layout is going to look more like a bullseye than ever. Definitely theme-appropriate.There will be altars surrounding the Man Pavilion and within L3K (the circle of lights around the Man). These pieces should be interactive. One feature requested is a gift exchange site where participants can leave offerings and obtain something in return. Altars are places to give and receive, and this function should be clearly communicated to participants.
Also, the page contains additional reporting on how the "Cargo Cult" theme was interpreted during the design of the Man's flying saucer base. Remember, you folks who are crying "ethnocentrism!" and "racism!", this is a parody of modern culture.
Our flying saucer Man base is of course tongue-in-cheek, an evocation of technology by people who do not necessarily understand technology. It is a kind of retro-tech which, while perhaps aspiring to seem sleek and modern, could nevertheless be constructed from homely or repurposed materials and involve very puzzling functions. Think of these as exhibits at a weird Science Fair. This is not to say that any apparatus cannot involve real and subtle technologic elements, nor that it can't produce intriguing effects. But this is parody, a burlesque of our technologic world.
