Grey-Water Disposal Service during BM

Post by KidA001 » Wed May 15, 2013 12:34 am

Hi All - I'm part of a larger camp (CampContact!) and am taking on our grey-water this year! Last year we were part of a larger community, Nectar Village, but this year a few camps have chosen to change it up and Nectar Village will no longer be. Long story short, this is our first time having to organize the grey-water service on our own and I can't seem to find a company after a few searches on google and ePlaya. Can anyone point me in the right direction? We need a service to come by our camp every couple days or so and empty our grey-water barrels.

Before this gets brought up...yes we also do an evaporation-pond for our showers, but we can't handle evaporation pond for our kitchen grey-water which feeds around 150 people 3x daily :)

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Errrr, looks like I may have just stumbled upon it. United Site Services seems to do that work.

For anyone else who is looking for this:
Found it on this page: http://survival.burningman.com/leave-no ... ck-it-out/

The problem of grey water disposal might be the same as the one with porta-potty cleanings. You're likely to have to have someone there at the camp as point of contact, and maybe even flagger-downer.

I'm confused by your statement, can you clarify? I believe you setup a contract with the company and they come to your camp every x amount of days to a set barrel that they know and empty it.

One of our campmates does it for his motorhome and he has to be there every time to let them know where it is and all that stuff, I think that is what Fishy was talking about.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

What they said. My recommendation is to a) make sure your camp has an easy-to-read sign, and b) an easy-to-read-from-half-a-block-away sign specifically for your RV/graywater service provider company. You'll need to put that one out on the scheduled service days, and a responsible human should be designated at the camp to 'be on the lookout' for them. If they give you a time-of-day schedule time, remember it's approximate at best. Try as they might, they're on playa time too.

That may sound like a hassle, but it's a lot less of a hassle than trying to find and flag down a vehicle randomly without any pre-arranged contract.

Be prepared for this not working...just sayin'! We tried it one year...had someone whose job it was on that day to be the contact/flag person...well, all it took was a topless lady with the promise of cold drinks to lure him away from his assigned duty...("Don't worry...it'll just be a quick drink!").

Make sure you're contact person is reliable and willing to sit there for 2-3 hours beyond the contact time...

Or make sure your flagger is a reliable topless lady.

I think a better solution would be for you to use hydration enemas with your grey water. Think of it as Gatorade for your ass! Now you can better utilize both your drinking and grey water!

Where is the closest and best gray or black water dump near the Playa ? I know the rest stop/restrooms west on 80 has a clean dump and water hose/ wash area for truckers. Any place closer to Gerlach ? :?:

In 2010 the couple I camped with used United Site Service. It cost if I'm not mistaking, about $40.
