The Moopiest Thing I've Ever Seen On The Playa Is...
A poly tarp that had been spray painted. As it flexed the paint flaked off.
And it was one of the bitchiest things to clean up after as well since the flakes of paint crumbled when you touched them.
Just thought I'd get this thread started for sharing some things that are really moopy but not specifically addressed (such as feathers, plant matter, etc...).

Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

In 2010, somebody emptied (we assume) their RV's black water (read: piss and shit) on the playa right about where BDV met up with Gigsville. You can imagine the red mark that left on the MOOP map.

Matted long human hair.... under the playa from the year before. Looked like a grey water site which had playa blown over it which had crusted over winter.

The second I saw this thread, I had to come in to post about the tarp.Drawingablank wrote:A poly tarp that had been spray painted. As it flexed the paint flaked off.

So instead I'm going to post about the moopiest thing I personally brought. I wore one skirt for most of the week since it proved to be the most comfortable piece of clothing I had with me. It had a few areas with some seed beads sewn in. One day the bottom tore, (bicycle? can't really remember) and scattered some beads. Those were hard to find and clean up. I'm sure I mooped more, but that was the most frivolous moopy thing that made me feel like an idiot.

Another one that drove me crazy during clean up - someone had broken up a lot of lumber without putting a tarp down. Must have taken me 2 hours on hands and knees to moop that site of the hundreds of playa colored wood splinters.

Some guy who hanged himself a week before the start of the event from the roof of a dome. By the time the event had ended, the body was a liquified slurry of blackened flesh and excrement at the bottom with entrails hanging from the skeleton. The worst part was that he was a hippie and so the mess smelled even worse.

Some folks got out of their truck at Greeter's to roll in the dust and in doing so,set a container down. They then accidentally drove over the container. It had been full of many glass jars of glitter that were smashed into the playa. We had to dig up a lot of playa to get rid of it.

I was mooping around a neighbors camp after they left on Monday, I guess a broom had exploded and they just left it all over the place. I was on my hands and knees picking up little bits of broom when I found a LARGE clump of hair buried in the Playa presumably from last year. Kinda grossed me out.

Lots of stuff turned up from last year. When we were unloading during early entry I saw all these black chips. Crawled around and they were the remnants of some long ago fire. Scattered all over the area. I was picking them up all week.

All these people finding clumps of hair. Don't dig too far or you'll find last year's sparkle ponies.

Cigarette butts and pistachio shells. I also picked up several half full cans of stale beer with drowned butts out in the deep playa that had obviously been left without any regard. All of this was easily preventable and it irked me. I guess it was just the wanton neglect. Also those plastic bags flying around are particularly hard to chase down.

Not the worst, but something that kinda really pissed me off. Somebody got tired of their sangria... Do you know what it's like to be leaning over from chair height picking up lemon slices from wet playa?

Actually from what I understand there are 3 sites for BM, used in rotation. That way we don't scar the same areas every year with the burn. Ever notice how sometimes the turn off and distance into the city are much different?tamarakay wrote:Lots of stuff turned up from last year. I could be wrong, but I have been told this by more than one person who is not a complete idiot. YMMV.
So, if true, all those that found hair under the playa, it was actually 3 years old

Re: The Moopiest Thing I've Ever Seen On The Playa Is...
No, you're correct, the site is moved slightly from year-to-year to lessen the environmental impact, so it's quite possible.Hondovious wrote:Actually from what I understand there are 3 sites for BM, used in rotation. Oof. The hair stories are nauseating.

A lot of that is by design - the road into the city isn't a straight shot, not even close. It's designed to move traffic off of 447 & on to the playa, keeping the highway as clear as possible. For Exodus it keeps as much traffic as possible out of BRC itself, and on the exit road.Hondovious wrote:Ever notice how sometimes the turn off and distance into the city are much different?
If memory serves, the city shifts, but not by a huge amount. I think we've been in roughly the same area for the last 3 years or so.

In 08 Terminal City was in some miserable, rutted piece of the playa--oh, I hated it. I don't know where the information that we were camped over a part of 07's city came from, but apparently the 9 o'clock side was much better. Which could support the moving around but not so very much hypothesis.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

Looking at aerial photos you can see faint roads in our city shape in several locations. We weren't sure how often it got flipped around though
