I've thought a lot (too much!) about GreyWater during the past few burns. As a first timer, keep it simple and see what works for your habits. Agreed with all of these tips. The main GW culprits are Melted Ice, Dishes, and Showering. There are solutions for each:
Melted ice: Good cooler mgmt. Keep ice segregated in XL ziplock bags. The clean melted water is OK for mist bottles, cleaning, showering, swamp cooler, or sprinkle on playa. Keep food from sinking into nasty cooler water.
Dishes: Use wet-wipes and a spray bottle to clean dishes. Zero GW generated. Don't bring a lot of super messy greasy food.
Showering: low flow shower pump, catch GW in a tub. From here you have choices: Dump GW back into your old water jugs and haul out, so easy, (just bring a funnel)! Or dip-and-hang old towels. Or Filter/treat/sprinkle for small amounts of GW. Or build a more complex evap station (not necessary for most small camps if you do a good job with the previous steps).

This - clean cooler melt water is a great way to keep a swamp cooler filled. I don't even bother with ziploc bags, as most of my cooler space is used for beer/soda/sealed packages. Definitely do not use contaminated cooler water for evaporative cooling though, unless you enjoy smelling like week old foodstuffs.asr9754 wrote:Melted ice: Good cooler mgmt.
