2016 Moop Map

Post by StrangeQuark88 » Wed Sep 21, 2016 8:11 pm

I have searched the main site and ePlaya, and I cannot find the 2016 Moop Map. We try to leave no trace but use the moop map as our report card for our efforts. Am I just that poor at searching? Now that I post this, I know it will land in my lap, and I will feel foolish.

They've only just begun, but Day 1 is up on the BM journal.

They just started doing their sweep yesterday so it's a bit early. Don't worry, as soon as the map is available someone will post a link here.

Wow, it seems like we left home so long ago. My cracked ribs and bruised hip are totally healed (bike mishap). Patience, I guess.

MOOP map is more of a "whew, no one exploded their blackwater tank at our site after we left" than a report card for how well you did. I prefer to leave the site just knowing beyond any doubt there was no MOOP left behind, and if there's a red blotch on the site it was something that blew in.

It was green where I was but the guys to one side of me got a yellow. They were contractors doing the lighting at the man base and hadn't even started tearing down when I left. Ugh.

Good for you Zig-Zag! I suspect the guy next to me won't be able to de-moop his spot either. He works for several weeks for FAST. He sleeps in a virtual construction site. Small and large equipment everywhere.

Does the FAST team forego MOOP responsibilities??

I'm thinking NO.

The answer in my head is no. Did you look at last years map on the spot where the Black Hole was? They will clean it up later. What are you gonna do? Kick out the Resto Team? I shouldn't say that. The Ghetto and Black Hole weren't that bad. Just a couple of red spots and a slash of yellow.

I see where I was at 5:10 and K. Behind me was a Large RV with an outdoor shower on L with a big evap pond. They got the yellow rectangle. There was a jerk with a bus toward 5:00 that played loud music, fancied himself a DJ, and was always scraping his grill out onto the playa, he is the other yellow rectangle on the block.

EX-FUCKING-Zackly! What a prick that moron was. Yes, I watched him scrape his grill out onto the playa.

Oh, no, I feel bad. when we go to Burningman we shouldn't be judgemental of our neighbors. But, what a loser that guy was. No, no, wait a minute. He was very nice.

Thank you. You nailed it, that was the guy. I only wish him and his cool DJ bus well.

One of my friends on FB tried to convince me to use footies and lags for my flat top shade. I started to look into it, costs, tools needed, ect..
It's going to be over $200 (9 footies, lags, additional ratchet straps, and impact driver). When I approached my sweetie with this he quickly dismissed it. We have the rebar, it works, it's not hard between the two of us to get all 13 pieces pounded and removed with vice grips.

I worry that lags will be left behind more often - I have pulled random rebars in my moop sweeps of neighboring areas. If an impact wrench dies and the person has no way to charge it, they will invariably be left behind and found by resto (let's hope). Vice grips are a must have for all participants. Add them to your packing list!!!!

It's a sea of green for Slayer Camp and our 8:00 & J neighbors... but what happened across the street?? An entire block of yellow and red? Yikes.

On one of my moop sweeps I found a 14" lag that one of my crew had failed to remove. I love my crew and all they do!... but delegating important tasks does carry risks.

Next year all my lags and spikes will have a red flag attached. Not the usual flags like Placers use, but a square foot of cloth with a grommet in the middle for the lag to go thru.
Also, I will have an exact count of the lags and spikes I bring.

From my block alone, I pulled out one lag with chain links, 8 pieces of rebar and one heavy duty 12" tent stake. There were definitely some lazy-asses on my block... All of the rebar and stake was found in one place in "circle of death" formation. This is why you don't cut across empty blocks in your vehicle, on your bike or on foot when leaving the event or even after the man burn, ripped tire or lots of stitches...

Hmm, lag screw flags are a good idea. However, I expect that cherry red won't be so vibrant after the week is over. Maybe I'll just outright buy some stake flags and use those. They're pretty cheap for 100x. They might help hold the chain to the head too.

Just tie a length of hi-vis colored vinyl flagging ribbon around every lag, you can't miss that stuff.

There's that too, but I kind of like the flag option that uses wire. The ribbon itself isn't on the ground where it can be stepped on and shredded, or the knot can come undone. I like the grommet in Elliot's setup, but I just don't like having the flag material on the ground itself. The flag might suck too though, so I guess I better experiment.
