My son was expected back yesterday and hasn't arrived. His phone is going straight to voicemail. His name is Ian Balmy and he was with a friend named Ricky Hernandez. He's driving a black 1999 BMW. He's got brown hair that's blonde from the sun. By now I'd venture to guess its sticking straight up. He has blue eyes and he's about 5'11. Please help this worried mama. Thanks.

Maybe list how old your son is and which direction he was going to reach home.

Did he have a 100 mile or 3000 mile drive back home?

Lots of cell phones get lost out there.

Very likely he is resting up, maybe involved in a project on or off the playa.
Too early to worry, most likely.

Hey BalmyMommy. This type of situation is pretty common, so please don't panic yet. (I was a whole day late home last year). Phones get lost by the hundreds out there, or he may lack a battery charge. He may also have car trouble--but people will try to help--or may have decided that the 8-9 hour Exodus times were too much for a tired mind & body, and wisely decided to delay departure. If he did that, commend him for his good sense, after you get done being mad for making you worry. :)

My son is 21. First time burner and he was heading towards San Francisco. I'm trying to stay calm because he is generally oblivious if he's focussed in something (a playa project, an adventure, a woman). I'm trying to not overreact because of what I know about his nature. At the same time, I feel like I need to do something.

I was once three weeks late returning from a trip.
Came back from texas by way of Denver.

Try not to worry.

You could try the SF burner lists if they are still up, but no guarantee it would work.

The happy, dirty, happy missing son showed up last night! Thank you for the support and suggestions. He was tired and stopped in Golden Gate Park to sleep. Twenty miles from home! I exhaled and listened to his tales from the playa (not edited as much as this mom had hoped for). He had a life changing experience and I am grateful for that.

From one mom to another, thanks for the update. Our family arrived home last night, too. Everyone safe and sound and smiling!

Hey, if you're too tired to drive, you've too tired to drive . . . sounds like you raised a smart kid! And he's really comfortable telling you everything.

Glad everything is okay.
