Muse in seek of art installation creators!

Hi! I'm 4z. I have an awesome idea for a gnarly art piece that totally goes with the theme and is playful, interactive, and intriguing. But I don't know the first thing about creating an art installation, let alone the funds or means to do it. Can someone take my idea and run with it? I don't need any credit for anything. I just want to play on it, assuming someone with wonderful talent can craft it!

I know the deadline for grants is nearing and I'd be hard pressed to think it wouldn't get funding if the right people for the job could actually build it.

Let me know! ;-)

You'll get more respect if you attempt it yourself, even if you fail spectacularly!!! 8)

Last year was my very first burn. I don't even necessarily want credit for the project, why would you think I'm asking for respect? I'd remain anonymous if it helps get it built. I simply don't have the means to do it. Nor frankly the talent. But I know someone in the playaworld does...so this is one attempt (of many) to connect.

So please let me know if you know someone! :-D thanks!

Basically, the people who have the skills have ideas of their own. If you start working on it, you might find people who like you and your idea enough to help/collaborate, but you don't get to be anyone's muse.

Hey 4z, and welcome to ePlaya! You are not the first to have a wonderful idea, and come looking here for somebody to build it. But I fully understand where you are coming from, for I would love to do the same with a dozen or so of my own ideas.

Here is my suggestion: Describe the idea right here in this thread. Spell it out, post crude sketches, anything. The last one I remember declined to share his idea. He wanted to just turn it over to the CIA or somebody and have it magically appear on Playa as a great surprise to everyone.

So spill it all over ePlaya. You are new here, but I can fill you in and tell you that many of us love to brainstorm on ideas. Something might come out of it. Right now, nothing is.

Again, welcome! :D

That's very typical of a first time poster.

No bitterness whatsoever here, but somehow you CREATED some.

See how easy that was?

Now try that with your project.

What makes you think you can't build it?

Have you tried?

It's how most of us learn.

YOU want to see it on the playa?

Bring it!!!!

I want to see it too!!!!!!!!! 8)

Yay!! A nice person! Thanks Elliot! Glad to be here!

I call it "Carnalvan" of course the name is optional, but the idea is that the animals on the piece are carnal in nature, as are the participants who operate it and they are following in an endless journey caravan-style in, well... the black rock desert. Lol.
So the idea: it's a life size carousel design but completely mechanical and entirely man powered. Of course i don't know if that's actually possible, but it'd be really cool if it was anyway. So, each of the animals on the carousel would have a gadget/part that the participants would move to get the carousel moving in a circle. Each part the participants move would be connected to different sounds and they would harmonize based off of the movements made by the people playing it. That, plus it could light up different things in the carousel with increasing participation too. The more people that play, the faster it moves, more sounds it makes and better light show.

Think it might be possible?? :-D

Figjam-
The post above it was signed "bitter ex-burner" ... I was just asking about an observation.
I don't have the ability to actually organize something of this magnitude at this point. I just graduated and am entering the work force. Not much free time. :-/ no shortage of ideas or encouraging words though! :-D

Gotta get some sleep before I fool myself. Busy tomorrow. By tomorrow night, Dr. Pyro will have been here and issued a cease and desist order because he is already using the name Carnalvan for his RV. You heard it here first.

Welcome to the boards - I'll also second the notion that Burning Man is a do-ocracy. If you want to see something on the playa, DO IT! Don't know how? Get radically self reliant and figure it out. People will respect and support you far more for trying (and embracing radical self-reliance) than by posting what amounts to a "someone build this for me."

Take a deep breath and think about it for a minute. There are thousands of us. Tens of thousands, even. Coming up with a fun/hilarious/inspirational/sexy/awesome idea... is the easy part. Making it happen is what takes work. If you can't make that happen this year, that's okay (hell, I've got a dozen or more ideas that I've been wanting to do for more than 5 years). Do what you can, make friends and collaborators, figure it out. If you can't be bothered to try, why should anyone else?

Good luck!

Thanks Trilobyte! I understand the concept of radical self reliance and building what you dream up, but sadly I don't have the means to make it happen this year. I'm fortunate to simply get to make it to burning man. I have always had a knack for creating and making things happen, and thus my time has been dedicated to taking over and running an independent business. I've got other families to consider when I take time away from the business, and well I guess I'll have to settle for just enjoying the burn and possibly contributing financially to projects already in the works as well as volunteering while I'm there. I wish I knew where the collaborating of ideas for projects happen, cause I would love to contribute intellectually too. I suppose I shall keep attending and see if I run in to people in the future who might want to just freely talk about ideas and get together to make things happen. As it stands, my first time at burning man I went by myself and well, I'm hooked!! It would be pretty cool to have a community project where the idea behind the piece is always a collaboration of multiple people's ideas and then morph multiple ideas into one. Then people who can't make it to burning man can feel included on the playa too. :) Maybe I'll start that in the future instead. Anyway, I'm starting to ramble...lol
Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Hope to see ya in August!

More than one person "has vanished" into the "Bermuda Triangle of Burning Man" during the Meet & Greet.

I do love Doc.........but remember, I can yodel!!!

I remember a human powered carousel in 07 I think.........people having sex on it in every imaginable way, while it went up and down. IIRC, people drove it while others rode.

Hey 4 z, nice idea. I had an idea that occurred one lonely night in deep playa during my first burn, and I knew I couldn't even come close to pulling it off alone, so I started a Meetup group when I got back to Kalamazoo. We had a group of 14 in no time, including the dude who made it a reality, Eli the Iceman. Then with the help of Choo in Kazoo, Emily Dandy Pants and others, KognitoKlast showed up in the desert the next year, 2012. We made some improvements for 2013, and now we're shooting for the playa if we get a grant. And since we're looking for collaborators to make this thing playa-worthy this year, I should share a little....go to vachot.com and guess the password.

Good luck, 4 z!
