Sun Dome inspired by Ray Bradbury's "The Long Rain"

Here's an idea I cooked up yesterday. Has anyone read "The Long Rain" by Ray Bradbury?

At the page below there is a link for the story. It's a story about several astronauts trekking through the endless rain for several days on a foreign planet. As their bodies and minds slowly break down they fantasize how it's all going to be alright when they finally reach the Sun Dome.

The Sun Dome is a warm glass room where visitors can bask in the heat and light of a simulated sun hanging suspended in the center of the dome. A room such as this is necessary on a planet of perpetual rain. I though it may also be useful at Burning Man, a land where people often find themselves lost, wandering in the cold darkness for hours through the night.

Here's a link with a concept rendering:

I know exactly how to build this but I lack the resources (right now...) so for now it's just a concept. Maybe someday I'll get it put together. If you have a geodesic dome, any propane fire equipment or access to theatrical lighting (many source 4's) you would like to contribute, this could have a chance of happenning. I have considered Kickstarter but I'm really not sure what my chances of success are...

Thanks for checking it out! Any feedback is appreciated and any questions will be answered.

It's sort of the opposite most of the time. People seeking rain in the desert.

I want to build a camp based on Gaiman's "A Study in Emerald."

Okay, I don't. That's not my favorite story is what I'm saying. I could turn that upside down and think of lots and lots of stories I hate more.

For instance, a camp based on "The Dead." Depressing Irish Party Camp where you find out that your wife never loved you... Yeah, that will be a hit!

Looks like a dome with an infra-red disco-ball.
hmmm

Could be a hit a Frostburn.

I loved that RB story (like most of his!). I can see this working deep playa, and make it a real oasis, like in the book with lovely sofas, etc, in there. If you can make that sun really visible somehow then it would be a real beacon at night. And I suppose it might be interesting to play through some speakers a constant recording of rain hitting the roof/glass inside - done right it could be quite soothing.

And maybe you have a statue of someone outside with their head tilted up and open, filled with perspex to mirror those who drowned that way in the story, if you really wanted to tie it in to that?!

Go for it, anyway, I think it sounds great.
