Elliot isnt actually placed. They wont place camps of less than 4.
But he helps build the MOOP fence and gets to come early.
There are a group of "campesinos" - groups smaller than a camp, joining Elliot in a neighborhood.
So far... Figjam, Unjonharley (the grump), Mini Mystic, MaryAnimal, Kowtow, and us...
Reprehensible, reckless, and remarkable... :)

Good point, FIGJAM. I guess we should really call the above list "shiftless flatterers and shameless hussies looking for a good roost".

Maybe looking at it from Elliot's POV: (-facepalm!-) "OMG. There goes the neighborhood!". HEHEHEH.

I think we'll have a contest for anti-social. Since I don't know where the porto's are I'll be even less social. I will likely be hunkered down in the dark confines of my trailer. That is unless that evil liquid finds it's way into my gullet... then there will be all hell to pay! A few drinks later I'll be asking FigJam for directions to the nearest Tilted Kilt.

Some of us are sleeping by 8pm, so I expect the partying won't start until after 3am and shutdown by 7pm.

So would it be inappropriate for you and I to head out to 10:00 and 2:00 and pump up the jams for all the late night revelers beginning at 6:00am? After we've had our morning pot of coffee of course.

I'm aiming for the same spot as last year, a block up from Elliot and the Gang. It was a perfect spot! So close to such good folks.
My son and I have our tix (theoretically, in the mail, one of these days, soon...) but we're still hoping for STEP to come through for our dear friend, Paydirt. She's instrumental to Aaronious's burn!

Inciting a riot is OK, but do it at the sound camps.

Damn! Even burners at BRC are NIMBY. Lol... Incite a riot, but do it over there... Maybe unjonharley and I should break out the Streisand, Montovani, and Belafonte when we crash the place at 6:00am. That should arouse a little from the tweeners.

Yes and then throw out a little "BTW, please clean up your rooms!"

Hey Elliot, me too. This spring has been real busy. Seems like I'm camping every weekend.

I just wanted to touch base since I said I wanted to work some shifts & of course bring some homebrew to share.

So do you know where you are going to be located this year & do you have a sign up for shifts working on bikes?

I'm bringing 4-5 (5 gallon) kegs so I'll just bring the flavor of the day :-) (it's all good)

Things have been hectic with me out of town and whatnot. I still expect to be on 5 (on the 4:59 side) between G and H. If I'm not, look for the bus with the eyes painted above the windshield -- see the little pictures in my signature -- within a few blocks.

When I started this thread I did something "wrong" -- I posted in the Theme Camps section of ePlaya, but I am not actually a Registered Theme Camp. So we have no reserved space. Granted, two of us will arrive a couple days early because we do volunteer work, but there is a sensible-and-courteous limit to how much space we can mark off for those who arrive later. So our gang may be spread out a bit, with other Participants between us. All good.

If anyone else (in addition to you-know-who-you-are) wants to camp with us, we will be glad to have you as neighbors wherever you find space when you arrive.

Due to illness there will be no Caravansary-themed facade on the camp. (I'm getting better, thanks!) The bus is the landmark.

Being so far behind schedule, I'm struggling to get the 40 loaner bicycles ready, so if anyone is able to cancel their request, it would help. Also, if you have requested a bicycle and have not checked in with me in a while, I would appreciate a confirmation.

Contrary to previous thought.... At this point I do not expect to have a sign-up board for repair shifts. I'm thinking that life in BRC is always so fluid that a shift board would be a waste of chalk. But let's do this: You folks tell me what you want, and then we'll decide.

I appreciate if mechanics can bring their own tools.

Enough for now. :D

As far as I am concerned, if you get there, that's a win.
And that goes for me, too!

Elliot, I'm sorry to hear that you've been sick. Get well first, then worry about everything else. I'll be down the road from you near the 3:00 keyhole so I will just look for your bus & stop by & say hi when I get there. I didn't get enough riders to take my bus this year so my plans just got turned upside-down. So as usual the key is to remain flexible & not sweet the small stuff.

And yes, just getting there is a WIN :-)

Thanks, FlyingMonkey and the rest of you! And since I finally have Medicare coverage, I am now on the mend after many years of inadequate treatment. (We can discuss our country's desperate need for universal medical coverage some other time.)

A question arrived in this mornings mailbag (inbox): "What tire pressures should we run on the Playa?"

So I answered:

Once you have arrived in Black Rock City, use the pressures shown on the side of the tires.

However, BRC is at around 4,000 feet. If you live at a lower elevation (which most people do), or will travel over even higher elevations (Donner Summit is over 7,000), you should have lower pressures when you leave home, to keep the tires/tubes from exploding when you get to the higher elevations. I have blown several inner-tubes this way. Around 20 to 30 PSI is safe for the trip. Bicycle tires should never be allowed to be completely deflated.

Invest in a good pump and a good gauge. Protect them against the Playa Dust when not in use.
Be sure the tires are not old and frayed in the sidewalls. Note that white sidewalls deteriorate faster than black ones.

And of course, your bikes should have wide tires -- mountain bikes or cruisers. Cruiser tires roll easier and kick up less dust than knobbies.

...........

There are also other inflatables that can detonate at high elevations. And no, I'm not talking about my girlfriend! But decades ago I traveled the country in a station-wagon with an air mattress in the back. Started at sea level with the mattress fully inflated. After a few hours of steady climbing... boom. But the mattress still felt firm to the touch. In fact, it looked larger than before. Turned out, one of the internal seams that makes the mattress into a "series of tubes" had torn, so that two of the tubes had become one giant tube. I kept rolling off the side of the mattress after that!

On that note, I have yet to see an air mattress that is still adequately inflated at the end of the night. Temperature also affects pressure, remember.

Time for my morning bike ride!

Elliot!

Taralynn here with BuddhaCamp...we were just around the corner from you last year, so you saw a lot of us and we saw a lot of you ;) We'll be close to you again this year (4:15 and F), and we've got LOTS of bikes in moderate condition that could use a home. Exact number unknown...we're purging our storage unit in Empire...but I'd guess 8-10 bikes, maybe more. Most in rideable condition but in need of air and some TLC. Can you use 'em? You can havethem for parts on the hoof or send them out as is. Your domain, your decision of course :D
