So - we're all about the theme nights, and the costumes, and the music, and the videos, and - of course - the awesome people that have come by to visit us over the years... We'll be announcing this year's line-up soon (I hope), but in the meantime, here are a few selfie-ish shots from last years parties...
We took the "Cult" from the overall theme and went with
Cult Movies as a starting point -
Monday was Star Wars: Han Shot First! Night but I was so zonked from getting everything ready that I didn't get a single pic that night (a rarity, for me - lol)
Tuesday was The Dark Side of Oz Night and the hosts built a gorgeous Emerald City for the occasion:
Wednesday was Repo: A Genetic Opera Night and we were really surprised when one of the executive producers came by to join in the festivities:
Thursday was Thursday Night Fever Night and the awesome folks with the Crisco Disco art car spent the night ferrying our guests around the playa checking out the fabulous art:
Friday was A Clockwork Orange Night that featured Lucy, the Milk-Plus (White Russians and Pina Coladas) lactating mannequin. She may be making a return for one of the theme nights this year:
And finally,
Saturday was Burn Night with our default musical genre, K-Pop, going until people stopped coming:
In a nutshell, it was a spectacular year for us and more fun than I could have imagined. Veteran campers and newbies make a great mix for our camp and we are hoping that we can find some special people to join us again this year!

This year we will be bringing back one of the fun events we did for Cargo Cult: Leti's "Broadway Beakfast". Last year we had lots of our friends and neighbors stopping by to enjoy a pancake breakfast and great company with a
The Sound of Music backdrop. The contenders so far this year are
Jesus Christ: Superstar and
The Book of Mormon. Do you have an idea for a soundtrack more along the lines of this year's theme?
By the way...if you took pics during the breakfast last year, I would love to see them!

Things are falling into place slowly - tickets purchased for the hardcore early entry team, people signing up for bar supplies, and theme nights are taking shape...! Here's one:

No worries - they have been bred to eat very little - they practically live on air - and they hold everything in until they literally explode... But I doubt that will happen for the first dozen or two races.

Here's another idea for a theme night based on a movie - Simon of the Desert - directed by Luis Buñuel in 1965...
"Simon a deep religious man in the 4th century wants to be nearer to God, so he climbs a column. The devil wants him to get down on earth and is trying to seduce him. But Simon recognizes him every time. So the devil takes him to a nightclub in New York of the 1960s."
Seems pretty legit. Here's a trailer:

Of course, the Exterminating Angel is soooo burningman.
Although the Milky Way is my favorite. Jesus is pate.

Is *that* what that line translates to....? Huh...
Ahhhh... New York in the 60s...a fabulous time! Anyone pick Simon and I out in the dance crowd? I'm at about the 1:18 mark... The dance was called "Radioactive Flesh," by the way.

The complete Exterminating Angel is available on YouTube...but it's without subtitles. It looks really interesting, though. Simon of the Desert and Exterminating Angel (as several others) can be picked up through Amazon at pretty reasonable prices - except for The Milky Way. It's three times more than any of the others...

It's not as famous. Well, I haven't seen Simon of the Desert, so I don't know how it measures up. But a whole of Bunuel left me in wtf-mode. Milky Way was genuinely funny.

It's only forty-five minutes long - I'm surprised that it isn't just an extra on one of his other movies...

Simon of the Desert?
Never knew that. They could make that, L'Age D'or, and Andalusian Dog into a triptych...

One more alternative soundtrack before we put this toy back in the box... I like it. Oh, and I still dance like this btw.
