Hi Everyone! Namaste!

I cannot tell you how excited I am that I finally get to fly over and burn this year, for the past few years I have not been able to due to lots of weddings to attend!

I am coming with 9 other people all from London and all like minded.

We spend a lot of time in India and Ibiza and are hoping to meet lots of like - minded people on the Playa!

We do like to have a great time when were out but our home is sacred and a resting place, time to relax, reflect, yoga, meditate and eat good food!

Were looking for some kind of yoga / chakra / meditation camp to join where we can find a peaceful haven away from the hustle and bustle and we can get the balance just right.

We have lots of skills to offer our camp from all different backgrounds and looking forward to our first burn.

I have seen a few camps whilst reading through them all on the BM site but I know sometimes its best getting a recommendation,

It sounds like you've got a whole group of your own already. Why don't you just BE a camp?
That's kinda' how it usually works! Unless you're looking for someone else to provide your infrastructure I don't get it.

Jesus, does anyone else also get the impression by now that the whole of Britain will just pack it all up at home and collectively crash on the playa this year?

Didn't think it mattered where in the world you come from. Sharing's caring and all that.

We did think of having our own mini camp but as none of us have been before, wanted to seek some advice on where's best to stay camp / no camp, where's the best place to set up - can you even chose this? Its all so new to us.

I'm overwhelmed reading through so many forums, reports, blogs and posts for months to try and get some info but I thought you guys would probably be the best people to help.

Dear moodles, welcome. First, finding a camp which takes in nine new unknown members is not easy. Finding a camp for nine is going to take a lot of research on your part, start by combing through last year's camp list and making contact.
It is difficult to get direct recommendations unless someone is actually part of a camp themselves. We random burners don't know who is returning, if the camps we think would suit your needs are accepting new members, or if a camp we think might be a good fit for you is actually a nightmare, or demands long hours of volunteer time which means you don't get to have the burn you want. A placed theme camp needs worker bees, be very careful whom you approach. Do I personally know which camps are good or bad? No, not really. I've been offered a place in Sacred Spaces once, but being on the Esplanade was not my style.

You mention skills in a general way, but it would be good to be able to say what you offer, very specifically. Can any of you teach or lead workshops? I see posts looking for such people now and then.

Nine people could actually set up a good little camp. Every bit of that information is already here, and we'd be happy to help you refine your search. Not one of us would let you die, stranded. My theme camp has the minimum number of people, and we are in the village of Hushville, you don't need to be big to be happy.

Honestly, do consider building the very camp you want rather gambling on a handful of fuckos knowing what camp is the perfect fit for your group. If you just want to pay dues then play, and I do not think you do, then you will get a lot of snark. Placed camps are in the minority, most camps are in the open area and just a group of friends bringing together their resources.

A suitable camp? You should get your "suits" before going to the desert.

(I hope my post did not come across as being offensive, it's merely an observation.)
Do you know that you don't have to join a theme camp? 10 virgins might be a bit of a challenge for a lot of camps... And if you make your own camp you can be sure to have your own "peaceful haven" - cause you won't have to live by somebody else's agenda. (Not that being in a theme camp cannot be great fun...)

I agree, I rolled my eyes at "Ibiza". Unless you're cleaning up the beach and picking up MOOP as you party on, Ibiza provides a poor context.

Ibiza is a hugely spiritual place with a bad reputation from lager louts on stag do's - I hate them just as much as the next person...

Its easy to be quick to judge I know, but that defines who you are not who I am ;o)

Well, the thing is that people don't know you and where you come from. I must confess I know nothing about yoga, so if you want to join a yoga camp maybe you could tell people what you have done (or better: contributed?) in India and Ibiza. I'm thinking into the direction of: Are people in your crowd yoga instructors? Would they be able to do workshops? Maybe a special branch of yoga that is interesting? (I totally made the last one up cause I have no idea).

Let people know specifically how you can contribute in your own unique way.

Burning Man has a bad rep among those who don't know. I would be agreeable to learn what Ibiza offers besides parties if you cared to share.

As for placement logistics, you'll be given a city map at the gate that will detail the open camping areas. The
2:00 and 10:00 ends of town are where the large scale sound camps are placed. Maybe avoid that if noise all night bothers you, but if you prefer a more "party" area, bingo.
You might guess around the general area of Center Camp at 6:00 would be similar, but it actually tends to be pretty quiet at night.
The 3:00 and 9:00 sides of the city can have a different "feel" but it varies year to year.
The further back, the further you walk or ride to "the middle of things" but the easier it is to get all the space you want.

If you arrive at night, I'd recommend not setting up until morning when you can have a look around and pick a spot. Make sure to check the map you'll be given at the gate to see that you're not in a preregistered assigned camp area. Pay attention to the neighbors, you don't want to be right next to an RV's generator exhaust or a loud camp generator if you can avoid it. But you might gain useful wind-blocking protection from an RV or other big structure.

Close to the port-a-potties is strategic for the late night "gotta-go". The downside isn't the smell, they are pretty well serviced, it's the constant slapping noise of the spring-loaded doors. Adjust your distance to your own liking.

It's kinda like the Seattle Mariner's Safeco Field - there's not really a bad seat in the house! Wherever you are, you'll be in Black Rock City, all of which is a very desirable neighborhood.

Have you taken a look at Sacred Spaces? Given all your yoga / chakra / namaste bs it might be right up your alley. They offer workshops and amenities but I do not know if they are still accepting campers (let alone 9 of them). If you decide to camp together I suggest looking into the 3:00 side near SS. http://sacredspacesvillage.org/

While SS is nice, I echo the thoughts above in that you should consider creating your own camp. Nine is a damn near perfect. Placement with a large theme camp is best after you find a match. One of you might like the Barbie Death Camp vibe while another might prefer a sound camp. Another with Sacred Spaces. Another might volunteer and prefer to camp with other volunteers. Etc.
