Five of us on a first time from Ireland

Hi everyone!
Five of us coming over from Ireland! We are are first timers and all looking for a good theme camp. If anyone can suggest a place that is newbie friendly and pretty open to five young Irish people then please let me know!!!! We are happy to help out or pay a bit if needed. It terms of skill we can bring hmmm - I guess two of our people are pretty good at art, one is good a fashion, two guys in the group can help out building stuff.
We have read up a lot of the advice online and on the forums and have an RV already but ideally if it has some kind of communal showers and electric grid (so we don't annoy the neighbours with the generator) then all the better!
Let us know if there is camps which are ok with newbies! Look forward to meeting fellow Burners!
-Rory

Welcome to ePlaya and you are sure to have a fine experience! You should journal/video it.
Noble aspirations, but setting expectations, not that many camps have an electric grid at RV scale. But it is fine to ask.
Individual camps have many many applicants, so you want each of you to stand out based on past accomplishments. The closer you are connected socially the better. I'm a promoter of camps, but sound's like you are more self sufficient than most.

I'm moving this over to the camps board, since that's a better fit for 'looking for camp' threads. You may also care to check out a couple threads at the top of the board, namely
how to join a camp and
how to start a camp. If you'd like to post a personal introduction, please feel free to circle back to the greeter's station and post one.

Rory
Just wanted to let you know that the people who can't build stuff (and building stuff is your most "salable" skill) can still help with the build, i.e. fetch and carry, hold nails/screws until needed, bring cold water/electrolyte drinks, make lunch, organize tools, or whatever.

There is also a premium in camps for participants who can stay late dismantling, picking up the area and hauling out. No training needed, just managing exhaustion!

Thanks guys, very useful information.
I will keep checking this post to see if there are particular theme camps of interest. I must admit, it's pretty hard going through the list of all the camps to try and find the right type!

Make your criteria as minimal as possible, because you're not going to know if the camp is the right fit until you actually camp with them. One of the true joys of Burning Man is allowing randomness into your life, even if it's just for one week.

Welcome to eplaya, Rory!
There are 5 of you and you already have shelter covered with the RV. You don't *have* to join a camp. You'll have no problem making new friends, and it's surprisingly easy out there to go without daily showers. In fact, maybe don't join a camp your first year and see what BM is all about. See what type of activities you enjoy on playa (spiritual? kinky? loud? dance-y? artsy? combination?) and then next year you will have a better idea how to tailor your experience. Or, see which camps you have fun at, and try to connect with them in the future.
Either which way, it promises to be an adventure. Make sure to read the First Timer's guide and Survival guide many, many times. Have fun!

Well knowing our group I would say we are looking for all of the above!
If there are theme camps out there looking for people, then please do drop us a message

He is. There's only one Rory in the entire Irish Republic. There's about 2093 more in Ulster.

I'm alwYs up for a hug from an Irishman! And I'll serve you mead in return so you can keep your drunk going
Oh, and if you guys are kinky perverts, you might be right for Retrofrolic. Or even if you are pervertable. We're very open minded that way

Welcome to Barbie Death Village! Don't let the others here intimidate you, we at BDV will do our best to make you feel pleasantly uncomfortable on the Playa. Join a sub-camp, or build your own. Stop by Camp Cantina Vida!

Had I seen this earlier, I would have messaged you. My bad! We sponsored the Irish Core group a couple of years back and are still in contact. Stop by Black Rock Fun Jet at 2:45ish and E and say hi - and look for the cityscape art car with the green dragon on the front left corner.
