Barbie Death Village Reno Hotel Deal 2014

Back by popular demand, and our gift to the entire burner community, Barbie Death Village has negotiated this year's Reno Hotel Deal for burners coming to and leaving from Burning Man. We are once again using the Sands Regency in downtown Reno. It is very similar to last year's deal and certainly cheaper than the internet rate. Here are the details (taxes not included):

Tuesday August 19 to Thursday August 21: $30
Friday August 22 and Saturday August 23: $65
Sunday August 24 to Thursday August 28: $30
Friday August 29 to Sunday August 31: $85
Monday September 1 to Thursday September 4: $30

You must call (866) FUN-STAY [(866) 386-7829] and ask for BURNING14. We have taken down at least one entire floor of rooms, all with two queen beds (unless you ask otherwise). The Sands Regency has a free sauna, large jacuzzi, and steam bath, ice machines on every floor, large swimming pool, and ample free parking. There is even covered parking you can use for the duration of the week if you're carpooling to the playa. There is also a free shuttle to and from the airport and the Sands Regency and it is five blocks from the Amtrak station.

Never let it be said that Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Barbie Death Village) doesn't give back to the burner community. You, my friends, are indeed welcome! See you in the dust.

Couldn't get through to the 866-386-7829 number. Kept getting a message, saying it's not assigned. I figured it was because I was calling from Canada, so I called the general inquiries number and asked to be transferred to reservations.

I wanted to book for August 22 & 23. The person I spoke to said it's $80 before taxes and the resort fee per night. When I questioned the rate and specified the BURNING14 code again, she said $80 was the special rate. It's identical to the internet rate. :(

Yes, I think the listed number is US only.

Thanks to you and the Barbiebarians for doing the legwork on this, Doc.

I think it's awesome that BDV arranges this. I figure I got someone who's clueless, and I'll try again this morning.

I called back again this morning. I spoke with a very nice woman named Ellen. She said the rate was still coming up as $80 with the Burning14 code. I told her the rates the BDV had listed, and she conferred with her manager. Turns out there was an error with the system. They corrected it, and my room is now booked. :D

Thanks Doc and the rest of the Barbiebarians for this great deal. It saved me about $100 from the price I would have paid at Best Western.

Thanks for your efforts Doc and Barbie Killers! We've stayed at the Sands before, it's a great, reasonable, comfortable spot in Reno. The easy-to-observe parking lot is especially a bonus.

Booked and booked! We have to leave Santa Cruz on Tuesday afternoon and we won't be on the playa tip Wednesday, but at least we get to stay until the following Tuesday and watch the city dismantle.

One of my favorite nights last year was Monday night after the burn. We went out to the man fire and Joyism showed up with blended drinks and dance music. So fun! A smallish party around a big ole fire. Fabulous stuff.

Thanks Doc and BDV!

What's the parking situation like at The Sands? My group and I are planning on using The Best Western near the airport again because we know we can park RVs and cars with trailers really easily but if we could do that at The Sands that sounds like a much better plan.

Anyone have experience with RVs at The Sands :?:

The Sands has one of the biggest lots in Reno. They have a covered lot by the swimming pool for regular cars and their outdoors lot is built to handle RVs, plus there's additional free parking across the street. (All parking is free.) So there shouldn't be any problems with having an RV in the Sands lot. Just tell them Doc Pyro sent you.

I totally read this "They have a covered lot by the swimming pool for regular cars" as "They have a covered WITH A swimming pool for regular cars"

But also, having just been working on our budget we probably can't afford to take a trailer anyway :(

Well. You will get a deal at the sands! Only $30 a night for the nights I am staying there. And yes, lots of parking for RV's.

It was a bit surreal last year to show up on Tuesday after the playa and all I could hear was the thump thump thump of a DJ. I think I had a flashbacks while I laid on the hotel bed.

<bump>

Have received a few inquiries recently on "Where to stay in Reno?" and have seen a few other posts as well, and just wanted to make sure everyone understands that this great deal is open to everybody, not just members of our camp. It is just one of the many gifts we share with our fellow dust denizens. One of these years I may just take advantage of it myself!

Update: called today during normal business hours, got a smart human who gave me the rate even though her computer said no. 8)

So I have 2 rooms for August 19 & 20 (one smoking one non-), ditto September 2.

This is probably my favorite part of my 12 hour drive each year. I know, 12 hours, I've got it easy compared to some of you east coasters. :P

Any recommendations for making this booking for non U.S. people? We're flying over from Australia.
