looking for share a RV (tent/camp/other) -> SWISS firsttimer

hi there

i'm at that time a 32 year old swiss guy, speaking german, english, pocito espanol as also pocito french and am curious about this event since i know about it (approx. 2010). Due to my 1 year sabbatical, i have got plenty of time and will join BM this year and have got 2x tickets as also 1x car ticket in case of requirement. Right now, i'm traveling around the world and will fly in from somewhere in Asia some few days before the festival. I personally would prefer it to fly to Reno directly and will leave 1.9 or 2.9 again from there to move to NY for meeting my friends over there which are starting their RTW trip at that time.

Due to my early leave i cant drop the rv (other stuff?) at the pickup point again.... but i could pick up it anywhere in advance, due to it not really matters right now if to fly to SF,LA,LV,Reno,Salt Lake, Sacramento to get an RV some days in advance.... i could go anywhere around that area and pick it up, if someone at the end brings it back again over there. Of course it would be very cool to have some experienced people or someone out of that area in our group, which hopefully also will help organizing things.

I can imagine myself joining a camp and help out there with some work as also build it up in advance. If you have some ideas, just let me know.

I read all the stuff as survival guide etc. quite carefully. of course there will be the time to apply all the read stuff to reality and not fail with it ;-).

Anyone from anywhere, please feel free to share your thoughts.

Kind regards
lota

PS: It might be possible a swiss girl could join me - i not know it today, but should know it within the next week to ease up things.

in the meanwhile it is sure we are 2 people and will get an rv by ourselves. we most probably will get a rv for 4 persons, so we are looking for sharing with 2 other people. if you are seriously interested, please pm me and let me know about zour ideas.

costs might be around 3000 usd / 4 ... but then depending on which rv we got still bikes and additional stuff is required.

If you are going to hire an RV you better do it NOW! It already might be too late. Easy to find your ride share people later.

I'm moving this to the Share Resources board, since that's a better fit for ride/RV share posts.

Many thanks for moving it. We got our rv from salt lake city and still have space for 2 people.

Well done.

Now that you've got that under control, here are 2 excellent RV threads . . .

We live in Utah, I can give you some I-80 tips. Wait to buy your booze until you hit Wendover, NV. NOT in Utah!
There's a speed trap in Elko. Always is, every summer.

And buy supplies, food, water, and whatnot in Fernley, NV right when you turnoff I-80 to 447. No need to haul all that weight from Salt Lake either. Gerlach usually has bulk water for sale to fill your RVs tanks; again no need to haul all that weight until you're nearly to BRC. And it helps support our neighbors!

Hi all!

I would love to stay in a RV butttt I don't have one yet  and to rent one alone is too expensive, if you looking for one person to share I would love to join you!

I live in Bay Area.

Thanks

Just a suggestion: getting out of BRC can sometimes take as long as getting in (hours and hours and hours), so perhaps it's best to schedule your flight no earlier than 2 September. This way you can leave the playa on Monday and you can get a full night's sleep in a hotel in Reno and then catch the flight the next day. Having that extra day can save your sanity, especially if something unexpected happens.

Well, many thanks for your suggestions. About picking up water in gerlach i have to take a look. As we will arrive from slc quite late in the evening/night of 25. and will enter asap as we shouldnt stay in gerlach i think. Also to pick up water might not be possible?!

As i'm meeting a friend in ny we will leave just at saturday to sunday and have flights on 1.9 somewhen. I know its a day of in the states that day but it is ok withbour car rental company in slc.

Even we pay for additional cleaning at the end done trough the renting company, do you have any suggestion where and with whom we could get a pre-cleaning on sunday 31.8?

Many thanks
Marcel

If you load up in Fernley, I'd get water there as well. Trying to pull of in Gerlach is just crazy. You don't want to stop there if you can avoid it.

The point is to NOT haul that water's weight North from Fernley up to Gerlach with some of those hills, and in the crazy Burning Man traffic.
Save you in gas, and you & others in stress.

(if you're arriving on the Sunday or Monday from the North, it is recommended to avoid the detour South into Gerlach before heading to the playa. Get your supplies further North.

As from 2010, the Town of Gerlach was selling water last year and were open from 8:00 a.m. until midnight on the opening Saturday, Sunday & Monday.

Hours may vary, and the location may be the town shop or the community center, so check back closer to the Burn to get the details they'll publish for this year.
Registering for JackRabbitSpeaks is a good idea for getting timely info once it's released.

There are big signs to the water depot in Gerlach, and it's off the main road.
