With apologies to any and all Slavic individuals within earshot, I wouldn't advise depending on Russian science without double-checking with another source.
Let's see what Uncle Sam's USGS has to say on this matter of imminent annihilation:

No cause for alarm, eh? [Glances at morning flights to Hawai'i.]

A new "Battle of the Super Powers!" this time over doom-saying.
In this corner, weighing in at 6.6 million square miles in the red trunks, Russia, with the prediction of annihilation for the north american continent. Aaaaand in this corner at a meager 3.8 million square miles in the blue trunks, predicting a quiet Burning Man and a noticeably quieter next several years on the seismometer, The USofA!
Let's have a clean fight gentlemen!

Re: Drought = DUSTAVANSARY?
A major volcanic eruption would really be epic.
From Simon's Russian map, Black Rock would be in the secondary ash zone.
Radical self-reliance indeed.
We worked the Bastrop fire in 2011. All the camping tools were deployed to help a friend who lost her house, her boyfriend's house, and all their fences. It was an amazing experience. The ground was hot from fire burning through roots of trees that were gone.
The only things keeping the cattle close was water, food, and sore feet.
You could smell water - after the fire, it was that dry. The ash came down like snow - and you had to sleep with a mask to breathe.
On the last day, an endangered toad hopped into the camp, and into a plastic pool we had set out to catch water used for spray baths, and foot soakings.
The biggest hardship we had, after getting the water back on, and pushing the ashes out of the way (we also built an outhouse over the septic tank - away from the burned remains of the house) - was the local guv'mint. They didn't want anyone in the area, which meant that locals couldn't take care of their livestock, reclaim the possessions that survived, and so on. We just went around them.
I imagine if there is a big 'un in Montana, those of us heading east will have to detour through California and Arizona...

Re: Drought = DUSTAVANSARY?
According to news in yesterday’s Lake County Record-Bee, there is no drought. There cannot be… because… a water pipe broke in the parking lot of a local Post Office in December, and it took until now to fix it – because the Water District and the Post Office could not decide whose responsibility it was.
The winner was the Water District, which was paid an extra $25 or so each month for the wasted water.

It's raining here today, in Dayton-Carson City Nevada. Been more of a steady drizzle since late morning. I didn't even get to bring the wash in before it started.

Simon - can you help? I don't know how to embed a youtube video here.
Buffalo are leaving Yellowstone in unexpected ways.
Remember, the elephants left Indonesia before the tsunami?.
Elk too.
I think Dougly needs some encouragement to take a trip to Hawaii.

that video was debunked already, locals that know that area said the bison are actually running down the road INTO the park lol. also, I used to live in Banff and jasper parks, and the elk there run down the roads all the time.

what difference does it make?

Verisimilitude. It's true until and as long as you don't bother to double-check it.

Re: Drought = DUSTAVANSARY?
A wild sandstorm in Egypt's Aswan on Thursday has left at least two people dead and another person injured, local reports said Thursday. Many people in Aswan, a popular tourist destination were overcome by panic as a huge cloud made its way over the sunny, historic city, witnesses said. The sandstorm followed a heat wave lasting several days in Cairo and other parts of Egypt, which ended with heavy overnight rains that flooded roads and paralysed traffic.
