Can anyone tell me how you know if your group is eligible for directed group sale tickets? Last year was my first running a theme camp, and it was a new camp so we weren't eligible anyway. This year, hoping to lock in tix for a few key infrastructure people.

What Fishy said. As per the information posted on the tickets page, Burning Man targets specific groups within the community for participation in the Directed Group Sale. The program does not have an application process.

From their past participation, Burning Man would already have contact information and will reach out to the team leader of a group that's to be invited to participate.

Having simply been part of a registered camp or project in a previous year does not guarantee that you'd be eligible. There are a number of factors, and if I remember correctly from past directed group sales, it's something in the neighborhood of half the registered camps and projects are available to benefit.

I was invited my second year as a theme camp. I wasn't expecting it, just had an email appear in my inbox one day.

If you're the primary contact for a camp (or project) that has a) registered in the past and b) in good standing, you should have already received an email with preliminary information. Invites will start going out soon, but generally speaking only arond half of the previously registered camps/projects will be able to participate.

we got invites the last 2 years and i think we are in good standing? so i hope...

FYI, as a camp lead I just got my directed ticket invite just now. It says that on January 30th when the sale opens I will be able to invite camp members for the limited spots they allocated for me. The number of spots was predetermined by someone somewhere. Hope that info helps.

Our camp has been involved in all 3 directed sales and interesting to see its evolution.

2012-A phone call asking how many tickets we needed as the ticket debacle causes some real panic for everyone concerned.
2013-Not sure this sale would be repeated but it was.Asked this time to limit it to only those who were absolute core members that filled out a profile.
2014-We now have been given a firm number of"core campers"we can invite.Most likely varies from camp to camp depending on camp population in the past.

This new 'allotment" number makes it seem possible that the 15,000 tickets available might be equal to all the camps needs as determined by placement.Then again maybe not.

No individual DS invite for my camp this year, because we are placed in Hushville. That's alright, our village takes care of us.

Do not mistake the allotment number to mean that there is a guarantee of tickets. The allotment number is a cap on the maximum number of people that a camp may invite, intended as a curb against those who may feel their entire camp's population is essential, or who may otherwise be tempted to start inviting outside their team.

If you're invited into the Directed Group Sale, does this also allow you to request theme-camp placement and/or Early Arrival passes?

Or is the Directed Group sale for tickets only, and you still have to do the Theme Camp questionaire separately?

At what point int he process can you make your Early-arrival ticket request?

The placement questionnaire (as well as other registered project questionnaires) opens up at noon on February 19.

So, some camps are already buying tix as of 1/30? I found out I'll be getting an invite to register for DS, but can't buy a ticket until 2/12.

No, the camp leads are submitting the lists then. No one gets to buy before 2/12.

Okay. So, lets say a camp gets five invites to the group sale, and they submit five names to get invited to participate in the group sale. Does that mean that the camp is limited to five tickets total? Or if one person buys two tickets, would one person lose out on their chance?

Each registered person gets two tickets and one vehicle pass.

No, one person purchasing two tickets would not deny another invitee from being able to participate.

The camp gets up to x invitations, and each invitee can then potentially purchase one or two tickets (and one or two vehicle passes). Emails should be going out sometime later today to invitees, with more information about pre-registering and participating in next week's directed group sale.

Of course, camps should be careful to only invite core/essential members of their camp - and if more invites are offered than are needed, it's better to leave them unused than to pass them along outside the group. It's done largely through the honor system, but barcodes are ultimately trackable, and camps found to be abusing the program could risk future participation.

@arsenik101 - your camp leader should have seen a confirmation if the information he/she entered was correct. Emails should be going out to invitees today with instructions for pre-registering for and participating in next week's sale.
