Ticket Sales Tips

Post by mdmf007 » Mon Aug 11, 2014 9:43 pm

Just a reminder - Even though Trilo has notes pinned to the top of this thread some of my own personal tips - simple things to remember to prevent heartache:

1. If its too good to be true - it probably isnt.
2. If a seller or buyer is being shady or giving vague info, move on
3. Bitcoin is not the best way to pay for a ticket IMO for a myriad of reasons, but is one way to pay I guess.
4. Sellers - post your location if you want to meet face to face for a sale.
5. Sales cant be hinged on conditions like "for sale with ride"

Just use common sense, you do not want to be the guy that gets ripped off.

Good Hunting

I have been hunting for a while and I have run across many scammers. They typically want you to send them money that cannot be recovered. Western Union, etc.

Yes when I ask them to simply get on skype with the tickets they go silent, or say things like send money and then I can overnight them.

You're kidding right I am not new on the block....

Tips:

1. Have them take a picture of the ticket next to a piece of paper that says your name on it (so its not a picture they found on the internet)

2. REAL burners only want to celebrate and talk all about burning man - this should be an amazing new friend not just a sale. We are a global community on a mission to improve planet earth.

3. get with a local person with tickets so you can see what a ticket actually looks like (I did this last week at our volunteer gathering and touched it, noted the perforation and the coloring)

4. Avoid www.ebay.com. Avoid http://www.theticketbucket.com/search/Burning%20Man and use craigslist ONLY locally to meet up and purchase - Don't pay more than cost burning man is a Non-profit , gifting economy

5. Have the person give you a reference to someone else that knows them or another burner that can verify this person or the story they are claiming

6. Why would anyone not want to reveal their identity?? Get on skype and meet each other

7. If your gut says NO then listen - don't give in to heated last minute emotions of scarcity (that's what crafty marketers/scammers want) You have all the time in the world, its coming to you, there are other options.

8. Did I mention that I am in Phoenix, AZ and our theme camp Walter still needs a ticket you can see why here (sorry last forum post was the wrong link, doh!) -> viewtopic.php?f=371&t=70717

Final thoughts:

We bought a ticket locally over the weekend and seriously applied burning man principles, learned from a gentleman that has been burning for a lot more years than Blake and I he had amazing stories and in return we gifted him knowledge about the local AZ tribe and what we are all working on the rest of the year after burning man - because to us burning man isn't an event - its a lifestyle choice.

Love all of you. Be strong. Remember those that are meant to go will go.
