Vehicle Passes: Lessons Learned?

So, it looks like vehicle passes are rather available now.
Do you think it "means" anything? Did people overbuy and horde and are now paying the price? Will things be different? Or only because they are going to offer fewer in proportion?
Just curious.

$40 was too low an amount to discourage hoarding. Also it was a new wrinkle in the ticket equation and at $40 I would guess some bought the max allowable "just in case" assuming they could sell the extras or just eat the $40 cost.

I believe that it has zero positive or negative effect on the event itself.

Maybe we'll see something once entry/exodus plays itself out.

I'm not even sure how they'll measure the impact with changes to gate opening time and extended length of stay on-playa.

At the least, they may be able to determine if there are fewer vehicles on the site year-over-year?

They already count how many vehicles there are on playa. This is supposed to cut down on them, maybe not this year, but over time.

Yep, I think it will take more than one year to determine any behavioral impact.

If we can get fewer cars going to and from, we can get a higher population on the permit.

Maybe?

Maybe a good thing, maybe a bad thing?

INB4 this is all to sell more tickets to PnPers and line the BMORG's pockets, lol.

We'll see what the stats show, but I think it at least got people trying to consolidate their rides.

I sure hope we get to see some stats, but the track record for that suggests we won't, unfortunately.

True. Expect it to be all anecdotal. With maybe a summary in the afterburn report.

Yes, there is the afterburn report, and whatever speculating can be done when 2015's ticket information is released.

I think this is an interesting topic; I was just noticing the same trend when you posted. I'd like to read more discussion on it.

Well, one thing about burners. We can make up shit on three misunderstood pieces of data like nobody's business.

Everyone was already trying to consolidate rides.
Travel costs do that.
All they can do is discourage some people from going at all.

In reality I think its all a money grab,,Music festivals started this years ago to generate extra cash under the disalution of energyy savings,,Ive worked parking crews for over a decade at festivals and have seen little to no impact on the amount of cars that still arrive,,If it was for road ease of traffic it should have been higher in price and more limited (1 per pair of tickets on same order,, one per order),,and could have done time framed admission with car passes having a sunday or monday entry,,

Being pissed about the absolute bullshit stories told by the Org about why we need vehicle passes was one of the factors that figured into my sitting this year out.
It's absolute, 100% bull-fucking-shit.
I don't care about the goddamm $40. Hell, bump the tickets up another $100. I don't care. But adding another annoying cumbersome piece of red tape, and making the ridiculous claims they made, that annoyed me.

The mods are gone, I can say it now! The vehicle pass program is a bullshit show to collect money while putting on a fake public appearance of doing something to lessen the impact of traffic.
