I have been looking but cant find this data point: how many tickets, or what percentage of tickets, are left at will call for pickup? Anybody have any idea?

The number being thrown around a lot is 30,000.

Thanks for that, JC. :)

That number seems very high to me. Once you factor-in all the directed tickets, that suggests the total will call tickets exceed half of the total.

If so, no wonder they were swamped!

No reason to believe that they weren't included in the 30.000. If that's a good number.

The past couple of years, the reports out of will call were really good. I'm wondering if this was another aspect to the adjustment to Ticketfly.

If this is the main let's bitch about Box Office thread then I would like to add to the bitching.

Can we please no longer allow single persons to hold up the line for well over an hour so they can pick up each and every ticket of their crew? Transactions for a single person, or go back to the end of the line to do your next transaction.

That is all.

That assumes my camp mates are US based, we are mainly a European camp. Of the 56 people in the camp, only 8 live in the US.

If I pay with a UK card, it gets sent to Will Call. I'd rather not have to send people money for them to buy them and how many can someone buy anyway, its two isn't it? Then I have to meet them in Reno which isn't always easy then they break down on the way. What was a simple thing turns into a total cluster f*** .

Its unnecessary, its not like UPS don't operate in the UK, just send them to me.

At this point it really sounds like you're more interested in complaining than finding an actual solution.

It only takes one person in the US willing to collect your tickets. And where your card is from doesn't effect where your tickets can be sent. Below is a picture of the tickets one US member of my previous camp had delivered to her from Australian and Dutch camp mates

Image

The trick is to put US Person's Name (Your Name) in the address box so they can pick up the parcel from the post office if it goes there but know it's your order.

And you seem super keen on needing to stop in Reno to pick up tickets anyway. I had things posted to Reno to pick up there this year so that's a possibility too. It is entirely possible to avoid Will Call as an International burner with just a little thought and planning. Feel free to do that rather than stand in line whinging next year. Will Call can be a fun place to meet new friends when the line is long but only if people don't get huffy.

I had my ticket in hand, but an RV-mate was low-income, so she needed to pick up her ticket at Will Call. We waited there for seven hours on Sunday night. It was miserable.

I support volunteerism, and obviously a lot of what the org does is supported by volunteer labor. But I would draw the line at tickets/will call. These are paid-for tickets. I think you are entitled to interact with a paid representative when picking up your tickets from Will Call.

Can you imagine if TicketFly was staffed by volunteers? No, cause that's crazy-talk.

Point taken.

Let me revise: I think spending $200-650 entitles you to smooth delivery of a ticket whether on or off the playa. Neither of which happened for a lot of folks.

Having paid ticket folk at will call would either require bussing them in and out of Reno, a six hour round trip when there's no traffic or providing food and accommodation on site for them. That doesn't seem like that simple or easy an idea

When there's no traffic the ride is closer to 1.5 hours. When I go to work, no one pays for my lunch. I bring my own.

From Reno to BRC? Google Maps has it as 3.5 hours. Either way that goes out the window once there's event traffic in the roads and supplying accommodation and food becomes feasible. Either way my point is there is a bit more to having paid ticketfly staff in site then just the fact that they'd be being paid.

I'd say that they could be fed from the commisery, but that doesn't work for the graveyard shift. and just because I'm saying something that might be problem solving, doesn't mean I support the idea.

Of course, there's always Disneyland, were things very rarely go out of control and all sideways. If burningman is "about" anything, then it may be about the imperfection of life. Hm, how to provoke an answer out of my new (and unknown to him) guru, Lonesomebri...

Google maps is wrong. And you stated "when there's no traffic".

Coming back to Reno from BRC on Tuesday this year, driving a BFT, I made it home in just under 2 hours.

I've driven this road many times, google maps is wrong.

The posted limit is 70 in some places, iirc. And in lonely places like that stretch of Washoe county, the locals go quite fast indeed, cause they have it memorized.

BRC to Reno, an easy 2 hours. Funny how someone that does not live there knows more than those that do....

I had half a dozen meals in the commissary this year. Yes. The ticket people eat there. I don't know what percentage of them but I would see tables of 6 in ticket t-shirts. Some volunteer jobs have perks. I wouldn't have wanted their job this year.

I don't have trouble with the idea of the organizers feeding volunteers. But, as was said upthread, it's not much of an incentive, and doesn't end up with quality people.

Actually, paid people can be demoralized, too. I imagine it as a temp job from hell.

Yeah because if it's paid temps chances are they won't be burners and apart from any logistical issues that would cause, having unticketed folk going in to commissary for dinner, they're probably not going to be quite as excited by the heat and dust as we are...

Got into the Will Call Lot pretty quickly from the entrance line on Friday night at about 8...then the shit-show ensued. The Escort Cart guys put us ALL THE WAY at the end of the MOSTLY EMPTY lot, then the whole parking crew disappeared. Can't really blame them for that, their shift was done. But where were their replacements? The Will Call lot was completely out-of-control and the Gate just kept sending more people in who all crammed right into the front of the lot all willy-nilly. The Will Call line didn't even move an inch for at least an hour "because the internet was down" Dafuq!?! Ya'll used to run the Will Call with clipboards!! I truck out to BRC to get away from that modern-inconvenience and now it's causing problems in Dustville? I was with an RC and was gifted a ticket from another RC. These are the people that work for you for free...and they have to go thru Will Call and get treated like Playa-mud with toilet paper in it.

6 hours later we got out of Will Call office just in time for the next shift change...that also didn't happen. Random people were pretending to be in charge and directing traffic out of the way of their own vehicles. Some a-hole that might have actually been on the Lot Crew was yelling at some-guy-with-a-clue for "Moving My Cones" when all those cones were in ONE BIG STACK AND DOING NOTHING 'til some-guy-with-a-clue actually lined 'em all out in a perfect pattern that blocked the Lot Jumpers and created an obvious Exit to get back on track. Special Fuck-Yer-Day to the dude that kept saying "there is a plan" but then wouldn't say what that "plan" was. And a Super-Special Fuck-Yer-Day to the guy in the checker-y chain-and-leather costume that was running around telling everybody he was "in charge of the gate". You weren't even in charge of dressing yourself...I hope you lost a bet and that's why you were wearing that. Virgin-Sparkle-Donkey.

I vibed-out all the mayhem and went straight to the front of the line. What was the root of the problem? I knocked politely on the window and made a *roll down* motion. This sweet lady who might have been asleep, looked scared, and rolled the window down anyways. I asked "Do you have a ticket?" and she said "YES!" and waived it around. I asked "Why are you still here?" and she answered "I'm just doing what I was told." I said "Turn right and go in! There's about 100 cars behind you."

And the line started moving again.

good times...good times. But get it right next time guys. Maybe change the name to Ticketlie? There should always be truth in advertising

Yet more reasons for having a box office in Reno. Its such simple change to make and if it was set up I bet most people would use it, leaving the old will call for those edge cases or die hards who would breeze through like they use to.

I like the idea of having a Will Call office in Reno. Though, you would need to ensure strong internet connectivity between Reno and BRC to prevent people from scamming the system (further).

The TicketFly folks directed a huge number of people to Will Call without notifying them in advance. The staff levels were inadequate for the number of people who needed to use Will Call... Had they been told, I know that Will Call would have been twice the size and had many more staff. - It was not possible to change the design of Will Call once it was in operation! - they also had a limited number of volunteers (hint: volunteer for Will Call if you want to really help).

There will be discussions regarding this at the post-burn meetings with the BM Org. (and at the planning meetings for next year's burn)
