lost WWII army pith helmet with white string neck strap and

Post by jimstamper » Thu Sep 04, 2014 2:13 pm

I played with this WWII army green tropical pith helmet as a child. I would really really pay to get it back. It was lost in the evening on the first day in center camp right next to a tiny table that was painted look up.. I looked up. and of course it fell off. I realized it 15 minutes later returned but it was gone. I walked around a long time and did not see anyone wearing it. I visited lost and found many times and of course walked around center camp much more than usual hoping to see my fathers hat. If you have it. please please allow me to buy it back from you.

It is army green sort of a hard cloth/cardboard sort of hat with a brim and a white string for a chin strap. The front has a crude hole in it for a blinky light that may or may not be there anymore but the hole should still be there. If it still has the red blinky light it says in white letters STROBE The hat itself is kind of heavy and has a brown leather sweat band inside.

If you see a old helmet next year that looks like that bring it over to Mobility Camp(I work with handicapped folks) right across from center camp I hope to be there next year. so grab the person and let us talk to a ranger to settle the issue. my name is Just Jim

of course I will pay shipping $$ plus to get this back. Just Jim

PS. i POSTED THIS ON FOUND NOT LOST anyone know how to delete this post? I can edit it but how do you make it go away?

Really?
grab the person and let us talk to a ranger to settle the issue.
You want us to accost every green, pith helmet wearer? What happened to, 'Don't bring your valuable jewelry or costume pieces. Things get lost.' I'm sorry you lost an important piece of your family history. But...With over 60,000 participants from around the world maybe you've done all you can. If it shows up in lost and found S.F., (and I don't know if they return costumes), they will read your post and get in touch. I wish you the best of luck finding it. Next year you could buy a cheap replica.

Dear Ratty

Sigh. I heard there were people like you on the evilplaya having to comment on everything and pick it apart.

I am sure glad I did not meet anyone like you and your attitude on the playa.

You show no common sense by your "accost" comment. Then you imply that common sense would mean you know better than bring things of value to Burning Man. Ok point taken. However, I did not read wherever you quoted "don't bring your valuable jewelry or costumes..." Where was that info listed?

Hope you learn some of the nicer Burning Man principals and carry them into your default world. So thanks for the kind and yet snarky comments. Just Jim

You think it's reasonable to ask a bunch of strangers on the internet to remember this post in a year's time and then accost another complete stranger because you were silly enough to not only bring a treasured family heirloom to the insanity of Burning Man but to simply forget about it and walk away when it fell off your head?! Ratty's post was entirely reasonable, you're the one living in some sort of altered reality it seems. And the "if you can't afford to lose it don't bring it to burning man" thing is written in plenty of places and even if it weren't it should go without saying.

And in terms of picking things apart, if this hat was so damn valuable to you why did you put a crude hole in it for a blinky light?

It had to be listed??!!?
It's just common sense. Then again Common Sense is getting to be so rare it should be declared a Super-Power.

The WWII pith helmet by the way cuts into your head so I was wearing a second hat underneath to keep me from injury. Thus when one fell off I still felt the second hat. my mistake it took me 15 minutes to figure that out... sure. so now lets stop this bickering.

You are reading into something and drawing unfounded conclusions. so, when you were a child you did not put a hole in anything? ps my brother put in the hole I think it was 1953. I did not know better in 1953

Ok. perhaps I chose poor words so if I withdraw that comment about finding the hat on another head will you be happy? I never used the word accost. You are reading things into my post.

Clarification I did not use the word "valuable". You did. if you say that quote "if you can't afford to loose" is written in plenty of places. well prove it! Show me where. Loosen up Everyone
I AM SORRY no it is not reasonable to approach someone at burning man. You are right. don't approach anyone and beware of the ones with WWII hats on it might be me...

SO PLEASE STOP. Just Jim

I'm not going to waste my time compiling a list of the places where that piece of advice has been posted, just like I wouldn't bother to prove to someone that "fuck yer burn" is indeed a *thing* at burning man. But trust me, it is, it i so ubiquitous that I don't even know where *exactly* to look it't just everywhere in the collective consciousness and is often repeated. But here is a quote from last year that I found within about 30 second of searching. Hell it even references the fact that this advice has been posted far and wide and people who missed it clearly can't read.

You've offered to pay money for it's return, money has a value, therefore this thing has value to you, I wasn't suggesting it was a valuable item to anyone but you or that the value was monetary, just that clearly it meant something to you and yet you were careless with it. I just think, as I believe Ratty was suggesting, you should reevaluate your perspective on this situation.
