Camp recommendations / shortlist

Post by friendlyoz-e » Sat Jun 20, 2015 2:18 pm

I assume this gets asked a lot so please point me to the right thread if there's already something out there on this, but given the incredible amount of options out there for camps, I was hoping the community could help recommend a shortlist of options based on past experiences and recommendations from burners and friends.

I'm travelling in with 6-8 people and we may have one mid sized RV in addition to a tent. I stayed around 9 oclock in 2013 and really loved it. Close enough to the sound camps but just far enough away to get some quiet time when needed. My crew is an awesome group of down to earth Aussies and we'd love to contribute to a camp that has some fun communal facilities (maybe we can help build the bar!?) but probably not the required needs of a really involved art/sound camp as most are flying in from Aus and therefore prep pre burn will be difficult for us.

We all love our tunes so camp with some music would be awesome!

Thanks guys, hope you can help whittle down the options for me!

The ghetto is not a bad idea but if that fails:

might work for you again. That many people with a tent (or two) and an RV sounds like a decent sized camp. You won't get placement so cruise the 9:00 area and camp some place that is not purple. Introduce yourselves to your neighbors first and you are good to go.
Everyone is so politically fucked up that they're segregating themselves in the name of equal rights and liberation.

Spend a few minutes reading the boards, and discovering that you might just be radically self reliant enough to figure out one of the easiest parts of how to get to Burning Man. Good luck!

I'm going to actually give a honest answer, even though it might not read that way: there is absolutely no way to answer your question. Nobody else can say what's going to be a good fit for you & your group, because we're not you & your group. There is a camp for every taste & style out there, from hard-core sex camps to evangelical Christians, from swank cocktail lounges to loud dive bars, from day-active only to night-active only, and on and on. Only you would know which of the thousands of camps would be the right fit.

6-8 people is the perfect size for a camp quite honestly (our camp my first year was 5). I'd peruse the boards looking for ideas for an easy shade structure (there are plenty), come up with a silly name to call yourselves, set up camp and remember that the best thing you can gift is helping someone out.

I'm not sure if we have room for another RV in our camp but we are hosting the aussie meet up on Tuesday, you should come to that at least. There's a link in my signature with all the details,

Thanks for all the replies. @eric I figured I would get this kind of answer but it was worth a shot! Tbh it didn't really occur to me to do our own camp with only 6 people but thanks for suggesting, this is actually a pretty great option, it's only the limitations of distance travelled and time to be able to construct our own.

@Jovankat thanks for the heads up! We might be able to stash some lamos in our luggage for the party haha

Awesome! I've actually started looking into options for baking lamingtons here but more Iced Vovos or BBQ/Pizza Shapes or Vegemite chocolate would be awesome!
