Hey what a great idea! I think I'll start selling stickers at Burning Man too!
Someone alert Sticker Camp! They've been doing it wrong.

Pardon my use of the English language.

Those stickers were costly I imagine. I donated much needed funds to the camp in the year they had these available. Shame on me for using the word "buy" haha, it was a late night, lol!

I think the stickers being worked on in this thread are cool, too.

Now quit pickin' on disabled people and fuck yer day, lol!

Oh, almost forgot...ever notice all the advertisement stickers being given away at sticker camp? I discussed this with the camp's person in charge when I was there trading some stickers and they told me asshats place them in the boxes when they aren't looking. I left the non-advertisement stickers I had brought with me and accepted a few cool BM stickers as we all searched through the shoes boxes of stickers and removed the advertisement stickers left by asshats (to be thrown out with the rest of the MOOP).

Sticker Camp is doing it right IMHO.

To the OP, I have a strong feeling you'd truly enjoy meeting BRC DOM campers. I know you are allowed to slowly drive up to the front of the camp and shout out to us. If we don't hear you at first keep trying and eventually one of us will make it to your vehicle and give you a warm welcome.
I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!

I wish I had a bullhorn and a flamethrower. I realize that they are the ones who "make" the event, so them dusting us peons is cool, while we are all just out there whacking off, but that kind of entitlement attitude pusses me off.
if it's outside the fence, it may well be a Perimeter vehicle, heading on an intercept or emergency response. there is not always a way to get there fast and not make dust. and as digital points out, it can be one of several LE agencies, or even Rampart, Earth Guardians......several others.
I volunteer with Perimeter, I drive outside the Trash Fence every day I am on the playa. Sometimes, I need to get somewhere fast. I do not intentionally drive close to the fence, as I know anyone near the fence will get dusted. There are times, however, where the safest path for speed is nearer the fence. When a dangerous situation has developed and I need to assist my crew I will do what I have to to get there ASAP. At night or during a dust storm we need to drive close to the fence just to know where we are. If the wind is blowing towards the city, there will be dust.

I also need to drive my vehicle as part of my other duties in BRC. I stay on the roads in BRC, I drive the speed limit. I have lost count of the number of times I get yelled. There is a "Staff" sticker on the right rear side of my vehicle which allows me to drive at all during the event.

I am rarely in costume. I wear the GP&E colours while I am on-duty. Most of the time I go out in the city I am not in costume, as I really don't care to be. Inclusion, one of the Burning Man principles. I have as much right to not wear a costume as anyone who does. My way of burning probably is not the same as anyone else. That does not make it wrong, or better.

People are being so extreme and coming up with specific what-if scenarios... I think IN GENERAL it would be cool if people running around in golf carts with disabled licenses gave a few people a lift if it wasn't terribly out of their way.
What's wrong with that? Sure, they aren't required to. They are out looking at all the art that other people weren't required to do the work to create... why not pitch in a little?
My sister is wheelchair bound, and she hates being treated any differently than anyone else.
I know first hand that running taxi service to wherever random people want to go sucks. No one is saying to do that.
I think the point that was intended in this whole tangent is that if you're running around with a mostly empty cart and some tired burners are going your way, why not give 'em a lift, even if your vehicle permit doesn't say you have to?

But, what if there's some emergency the rest of us don't know about?
I mean, you're not required to give anyone a lift, so why would you?
Oh that's right... you're not disabled. Disabled people are different and no one should expect them to behave like normal people.

Isn't that right? That's what I got from this thread.

Sorry if any of you are offended by the idea that burners driving around with disabled permits could maybe give some other burners a lift now and then, like everyone else who drives with a playa license does.

My sister's got MS and gets around in a chair. She hates it when she gets treated any differently than anyone else. She would be steampunking the hell out of her cart if she went to the playa. She does steampunk her chair for local stuff.

In case no one figured it out, I'm standing up FOR disabled burners, I'm very much against treating them like they aren't just like the rest of the crowd, especially when they are in a vehicle which puts them on a level playing ground with everyone else. Maybe even at an advantage.

Except for unjon. He should be heckled at all times.

I don't think anyone has a problem with this - the problem is when someone sees a disabled permitted vehicle not giving someone else a lift (without knowing anything else) and judges that person as being rude, or an ass, or worse, just because of the quick visual they see. I don't judge other vehicles with one person in them driving around, I don't know what they're doing, and that same respect should be applied to every driver out there, disabled or not.

I always find a self-depreciating sense of humor and alcohol turns most situations into a happening.

How about a window message that says "Yup, my art car sucks. Ask me for free beer"

Hi,

Chef Juke from the DMV here.

If you see a vehicle that is speeding, violating the Sound Policy or otherwise being operated in an unsafe manner, you can report it to the Rangers and/or DMV. While having the vehicle sticker number is helpful, we can work with a description of the vehicle.

While the DMV itself does not perform enforcement of the rules on the playa (Rangers and LEOs perform that function) we do follow up on ALL reports of bad vehicle behavior we get each year, either during or after the event. As each MV owner agreed to abide by the rules including the 5MPH speed limit, if we get reports of repeat offenders, they may either have their vehicle impounded or not invited back in subsequent years.

If anyone has any additional questions or concerns regarding anything Vehicle related on the playa, please feel free to email us at [email protected]

Sincerely,

-Chef Juke for the DMV Hotties

Handi-Man decal. Completely unofficial.
If there's any interest, I could make up a few and apply them to your vehicles after they've been vetted and stickered by the Hotties.

You might try writing something witty on the side. One year we put a giant rat face and tail on the van and had a banner on both sides that had a Rat in a wheelchair the said " IT'S A GIANT WHEELCHAIR! OK?!" We didn't get any crap that year.
The flags and stickers help but they are not foolproof, especially with newbies.
Also making sure you are not raising any dust helps not make people just generally pissy.

Hey what a great idea! I think I'll start selling stickers at Burning Man too!
PLEASE NOTE
I am co-Lead of Mobility Camp.
WE DO NOT SELL STICKERS!!! :x
You cannot "get one" for a Donation!
The person who said it was possible is mistaken, perhaps they are speaking from previous leadership, I have no idea, But I can absolutely tell you NOW...It is NOT done that way!
Yes we are always looking for vehicles to help out, but making promises will also not get you a sticker.

So yah if you have room, are not on a mission, offer a lift.
If you are contemplating building a huge Art car...please make it wheelchair accessible, easily done in the planning stages, tough to do after it's already built.

Yes, previous leadership supplied beautiful plate sized stickers in past years.

Also, in MY defense I've explained it was an error and poor use of wording when I used the word "sell". FWIW, those stickers were given out freely. I had donated time, funding and a tremendous amount of energy to BRC DOM.

I like LOVE that (if I may say so) slogan...especially if done with some carefully thought out graphics imho 8)

Hi Rat it's Wayne i ran the camp before handing it off to Ratlady and i never sold a 10'' camp sticker.

Those stickers where placed by me on carts and art cars working with the camp.

Some have been gifted to outstanding leaders and hard working supporters of the camp.

But hell no you can't buy one drive around and pretend your disabled if that's what your thinking.

At home depot or lowes you can get the stick on signs (gimp coupons I call them lol, my wife and son are very handicapped, gotta keep a sense of humor right?) that would be used like on a bathroom or something, like six by eight inches, white plastic, sticky on back, I would just put one on each front door, should alleviate the problem I would think. If you decorate it half assed you probly get more comments. There are douches for sure. I have DV too, but mine is kinda mutated and looks a bit official, even though it's not. One time we were in deep playa late at nite and almost ran over two girls walking along all dressed in black, we yelled at them "hey get some lights before you get killed" and they screamed at us "fuck you we WORK here we are with the ORG, we know what we are doing" LOL The same night we went to a bar, it was Saturday pre event I think, and it was a Ranger bar/camp and they KICKED US OUT, "you aren't Rangers, get out!!!" wow Inclusion lol. ANyway there are douches, FUCK EM!!! If you really want to decorate it up, lots of people like doing that stuff, ask for it!
