I have been fascinated with Burning Man since I've found out about music festivals four years ago. I finally feel I am ready to take on this beautiful experience!! I am an art student who has tried her hands at just about every fine art and craft art there is, and If I haven't tried I am a fast learner and you can bet your buttons that I will want to try it!
SO to the point. I am looking to help out/ apprentice an artist. I want to learn from a creative mind at work not a professor spitting out the same crap they spit out every semester (Not that it isn't valuable crap.) I live in Northeast Ohio and am going to be taking two classes in the spring semester so I will have lots of free time to dedicate to this cause! I will do what ever it takes to be able to help contribute to this beautiful week of art, expression, and innovation.
My dream is to eventually have my own instillation and I feel this is a damn good place to start!
If anyone has any information on where to direct me or any artist who are starting to put together ideas who will eventually need help please let me know! The notion will be greatly appreciated!!

Art on the desert can be as small a a wind driven Thing-a-ma-jig to two semi trucks standing on end one on top the other.. Study the pictures for an idea.. Plan a project you can afford.. Come to Burning Man and find your art/yourself.. Many artist place small art at the roadside in front of there own camp..

It's still *kinda* early to find projects to help on. Get into contact with your region. Every region is different, so I can't really tell you the perfect way to do it, but find your tribe. They are there, I've totally met people from Ohio.
I think that by January, there should be some projects. And, if you don't find a project - make your own! Anything can be art. This year, someone dressed a skeleton up like a raver and put it deep in the desert. It was hilarious, and totally art. Hell, rub chocolate on yourself and give fudge-hugs. That's art. We don't judge!

And while you are on the main web site, find your local Regional group and join them. That should connect you with local artists.
Meanwhile, welcome to ePlaya!

Some suggestions:
Register at http://spark.burningman.com/
Subscribe to some of the active ones matching your interests https://lists.burningman.com/mailman/listinfo/
Send a note to the Artery with a request to put you in touch with artists in your region, past and future. http://www.burningman.com/participate/i ... tions.html
Some projects have intense builds in SF/East Bay & Reno, if you can schedule a week or two pre-burn there, they can put you to work. The temple is always a big project.
As others have said - contact your regionals, Rochester, Toronto, to Columbus.

What they said.
Go check out the regionals section of the Burning Man site and explore any of the regional groups that you feel are within reasonable driving distance. Check out their mailing lists, seek out any Facebook groups and keep your eyes open for projects that are forming up. Show up to meetings and events, introduce yourself and express interest in helping out on a project that excites you. Good luck!
