Interactive Art Project Recruitment: Bay Area

Post by atlaskan » Sun Nov 30, 2014 11:08 pm

Hey Burners,

My name is Atlas and I have been to the Burn three years in a row now and Its time that I contribute to the interactivity that is burning man! I am creating the most awesome interactive fun ridiculous mind blowing art project for BM 2015. I have had this project in the works for years now and I finally have the resources and financial gains to make my dreams come alive for the people of Black Rock City! I am looking for people in the Bay Area who would like to get involved and make the Playa magic happen. Please hear out my idea and if you would like to get involved please feel feel to reach out to me via Eplaya or PM.

The Idea Simply Put: A carnival water gun game/installation with moving targets & objectives to shoot at with a giant(6'x18') water reactive LED wall as the back drop for the game itself. The burner rolls up to a carnival style game in the middle of open playa & takes a seat on a stool. They place their hands on the water gun, they push the little red button and a colored water stream comes out the end of the gun. At first they start to shoot at the ducks on the conveyor belt or the passing by air planes in the sky, but as they shoot & miss their targets they realize that the background is changing, but why? The black wall is being lit up little by little. What they soon start to put together is that there water stream is actually painting on the wall! We are talking about a massive canvas that can be literally painted on with water! You want to draw a Burning man symbol: easy peasy, you want to paint your own name: bam done, you can even blow your own mind by just blasting and dousing the wall with water. This wall can produce an infinite amount of colors and changes as each individual LED's wetness & dryness changes over the course of an evening.

if you cant visualize it here it is with pictures & videos:

with this (with colored RGB LED's):

When someone asks me what my goal is with this project i say "I want bring back interactive art to the open playa & blow someones mind for the 5 minutes of attention we have gotten from the passerby-er". This installation is meant to get the community involved & create a piece that is not only interactive but will awe & inspire. We are creating a interactive piece of art that people can literally paint their dreams with the nectar of life. We are recruiting all the help we can get from our community.

We are looking currently look for people who can help in these areas but are not limited too:
- Electrical engineers - We want to create a safe art installation that combines water with electrical. a 3v system with a ton of amperage. We also want make sure that all of our electrical needs are met meaning big enough generator for all of the lights, moving objects, water gun system, pumps etc...
- Carpenters - We need to create a safe & sound structure around the wall & installation. We also need to make a water proof "catch/tub" for all of the water as we do not want to damage the playa.
- Mechanical Engineers - We need to create the water guns/pressure system/pump/filtration system
- Steel workers/welders - We are building the 6'x6' water reactive panels on a steel frame. We need people who can work with steel inclduing framing, welding, & drilling.
- Treasurers/Fundraising Crew - We would like to have a crew of people who want to help with planning parties, crowd funding, & other fundraising ideas to help fund some of the costs of the project.
- Helpers - We love hands on deck & all the help we can get from big to small.
- Fluffers - We want team members who keep the moral high and keep the whiskey flowing on those long nights & hard work days.
- Soldering Monkeys - We need people who can solder & do what we call "Digital Trimming" which is basically alot of soldering & prepping for the LED wall itself
- Anyone who wants to help - Because you are awesome!

If you want to be a part of this awesome installation please contact me on this forum, PM, phone (nine2zero-27nine-zero27two), Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/kaniuga), email ([email protected]) & we will get you involved.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to read this & will see you at home soon,

Atlas

Sounds like a fun idea. You might want to check out this site too: http://spark.burningman.com/

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Sounds like a fun project, but one that will also have some seriously insane logistics (I have no idea how many gallons a day you'll go through, but imagine it's quite a lot... plus dust storms, etc). Good luck with the project!
