BM virgin looking for a camp!!

Post by caileighlc » Thu Jan 29, 2015 6:06 am

Me and my boyfriend are 19 and we are finally going to BM this year. We would really like to immerse ourselves in the experience and I've heard that contributing to a low cost camp would be the most beneficial. All we really want is a shower, common shade mostly just people to show us the ropes. We want to do things properly and participating and helping in community events would really be the best option. Any suggestions as to how to find a suitable camp?

Tell us a bit about yourselves.
Most people don't really join a theme camp their first year. There are tons of open areas with friendly people on all sides of you.
There are lots of great things to read up on, and if you click on the links in my signature below, you will get a good feel for things.
Welcome to eplaya and looking forward to seeing you in the dust!

This question has been asked before so you might not get the info you're after in replies here but if you have a look around for older threads asking the same thing you might find the info you need. Here's a fairly recent thread I found just a few lines below this one.

You'll find that nearly every question you have has already been answered on here, generally it is advisable to do a search a d see if you can find the answer yourself before you ask. Radical self reliance is one of the principles after all. :P Also folks can be a bit snarky is you don't do some leg work yourself. Unfortunately the search function on ePlaya is a bit shithouse. You'll get much better results if you type your search query along with "eplaya" into google.

And in regards to your actual question, you're probably going to have to do some research yourself to find a camp, it's folks looking for a camp who usually make the first move. At most a camp will make a post here or on spark saying they're open to new applicants. They don't usually trawl through posts like this looking for people to invite. It's also a bit early, camp ads will pick up in a few months once they've got a more solid idea of their plans for the year.

I would say find out who your regional contacts are & if they are people you would like to camp with try that your first year. They will be a wealth of information & be able to introduce you to local burners that have "been there, done that". Most regional groups have meetings & spring camp-outs or other events that are really a good introductions to the Burning Man culture (if there really is such a thing). Everyone has different expectations & experiences but don't overlook local Burners. Otherwise as the event gets closer camps that want members will be getting the word out. I'm guessing that you will have no problem finding a group that you feel comfortable with.

Cultural appropriation? Do I go over to your house during one of your BDSM sessions and slap the Nazi SS officer hat off of your head? - Bob

I totally forgot, Welcome. You may want to introduce yourself here viewtopic.php?f=95&t=1391

Do lots of reading, use the search feature (because it's probably been asked before). Have fun. There are a ton of brilliant, often "snarky" people here that can answer anything you want. But be forewarned, if you don't make any effort to do a little homework first they will let you know :-)
