Villages (How do I find one to join?)

Post by Dez_ » Thu Mar 12, 2015 12:26 pm

Hi Burners,

Last year I joined a Village as opposed to my first two years with a theme camp. I want to do this again, but I cannot remember for the life of me how I found Villages last year. Does anyone know how I can find a Village to camp with? I found a post last year somehow and was able to contact them and register. know they fill up quickly, and I don't want to miss my chance! Thanks!

Which village? There is no master village registration page. You find one you like, email them, and see if there is space available.

Easy breezy.

Yeah, I remember randomly finding a post for one last year, but I am wondering how to actually find them? Where do I look? FB? ePlaya?

Google. Or email. Don't you have contact info from last year?

I thought that Villages were groups of Camps. So wouldn't that preclude individuals joining? (Unless larger villages have people that camp with them just as organizers, but when we had a Village, unless memory fails me, all of the Village organizers were a part of one of the largest camps in the village.)

Maybe DocPyro might chime in here; he runs one of the largest Villages I know of.

Yes, I do have the contact info. But what I am going to be bringing with me this year, I won't be able to use in that village. They don't allow it. So just wondering if there was a specific place to look for contact information to other villages.

Also, I was an individual last year who joined a village. They allow for individuals and small groups too, even if you don't have a "theme camp" to contribute.

Any village recommendations?

Thanks all!

Doc let me join BDV as solo virgin. Though I'll admit to a bit confusion that first year as to whether I was a member of the camp or the village.

OP: There are no hard or fast rules as to where to find village info. Start with the list from last year and then start searching online.

Why is it a village you want to join and not a camp?

I'm guessing you were in Hushville and this year have the urge to be noisy. :)

(Did I guess right??) Noisy art? A gennie?

Unfortunately, there is no master list of villages, as digital said. I would recommend continuing to search this forum for a camp that looks compatible, whether it is village-sized or not. Look for whatever traits you hope for in your surroundings (are you looking for something large? something laid back or less intense? those are the only reasons I can think of someone specifically seeking a village, whether or not this will result in success).

. . . Then, write a kickass letter to them about your project for this year and how it fits their demeanor.

Good question, with a long story for an answer. I originally had a camp that I worked hard on an art car with for a few years. Intimate relationships end and people get nasty and exclude you from the camp...is the short answer. Not a very burning man friendly mentality, but it happens. So the third year I went solo because of last minute planning due to that situation and I joined a village as an individual and had an awesome fucking time. Now I am going with a very small group and want to contribute in some way, so I think joining a village is a good place to start, meet more people, and then grow. I like the idea of multiple camps working as a village.

Our thoughts on contributing this year is possibly a foam rolling and recovery station. My partner is all about health, exercise, and recovery... and teaching others how. I am sure many of you can relate to having locked hips and pain from riding bikes through those rough patches of playa and by day three you're all locked up and dying. Well, this would be for that. To get you recovered quickly and then set you free to the playa again for more debauchery ;)

Savannah, ding ding ding! Yes, a gennie this year. Hushville was great for my situation last year. I could relax and take a break when I needed to...last years burn at times was emotionally taxing, but the best week of my life at the same time.

Thanks for the advice...I figured ePlaya is best to watch for open camps and villages. I'll keep at it.

Breakups can indeed take a toll on a camping situation, and I can understand not wanting to rehash that sort of thing.

Your idea sounds really cool; I hope you find a good village then! While surely someone may have done it before, I've never heard of a foam rolling and recovery station on the playa. Camps are having to up the ante every year to get placement, and you could be an important part of the right camp or village.

It happens in villages, too.

You might try looking at last year's moop map. The larger squares are likely to be villages, but even if they are just one big theme camp, it might be worth reaching out.

I love the foam roller idea! I need that. I have been suffering from sciatica and this is the worst pain I have ever had. I don't wish it on my worst enemy. My chiro says foam roller after recovery would be very good for me.

Brilliant! I was having trouble finding the search feature once they restructured the site.

why not start your very own camp.?. easier to depend on others to make your dream happen.?. setting up an inferastructure wayyy tooo hard for a small group.?....
