Wall for collaborative painting/drawing/writing projects?
Wall for collaborative painting/drawing/writing projects?
My partner and I both have ideas for interactive installations this year that involve some vertically mounted medium on which passers by leave a mark (pen, paint, whatever). I'm quite capable of being radically self-reliant and throwing together some 2x4s and plywood to build a wall for those things to get mounted to, but that seems wasteful of time and money. Are there any common places where people put that sort of thing?

I was just about to suggest the Life Cube as well!

I'm having trouble parsing the description of the Life Cube project. It mostly sounds like they want individuals to write and draw on it, not a level of meta for people to put other installations for directed writing and drawing?

Last year Robbi Dobbs and I stopped at a long white wall that had tables full of paints, brushes and stencils. It was next to the radio station.

Yeah, you'd be decorating Life Cube's piece, not attaching your own art to it. To get your question answered directly though, reach out to them to a) tell them what you're looking to do, and b) see if they'd be cool with that.
To the best of my knowledge, people don't generally bring out walls for you to install your own art (though keep an eye out, you never know what people may plan to bring). I'd recommend doing the radically self reliant thing and bringing out the materials you need to display the piece properly - remember too that it needs to be ruggedized to be able to withstand high winds and the extreme environment. If you've not already checked it out, I'd look at the art installation resources on the main site, it has lots of good information.
As an alternative, you could also plan to build a much larger space than you need for your own project, and then post a call out to other artists who might want to display on your wall?

Do you want a wall to mark on directly, or do you want a wall to display individual pieces?
A display wall does not need to be solid. My gallery is made of chickenwire on frames, attached to the side of our trailer. Works just fine. Ten years now, so I know it holds up.

If the stallion gets his frame done we are providing a "graffiti" wall so people can paint etc on it. It will be along the side of our monkey hut. Not sure he will get to it this year at the rate he's going though. Maybe next year.
