The Flamingo Trap. We're a camp you should visit/join us!

We're back for our second year as a placed camp!

We'll be at 4:15 & D, we've got lots planned and we still have a few spaces for campers!

We'll have a 24 foot shade & snuggle dome and a 30 foot craft & activity dome and a trampoline out by the roadside.

Our art projects & events include;

'Straya Day - We're havin' a barbie! (BBQ) This is an Aussie themed BBQ party. It's a chance for any and all Australians on playa to meet their countrymen and women and 'av a yarn (chat). It's also an opportunity for us mob to share our culture with the rest of Black Rock City. We'll be playing Aussie tunes, sharing all sorts of Aussie tucker (food) like Vegemite toast, lamingtons, Iced Vovos, fairy bread, Bundaberg Ginger Beer, Bundy Rum, Tim Tams etc. There will be games like cricket and Goon of Fortune (Yes we're bringing a Hills) and koalas to cuddle. And of course there will be beer. It might even be Aussie beer!

Mutant Flamingo Flock - Again this year we'll be bringing a few hundred identical plastic lawn flamingos and a bunch of arts and crafts to the playa and we'll be encouraging our campers, the neighbours and random passers by to go nuts and so that by the end of the week we have a flock of mutant flamingos! We'll be hosting craft sessions Wednesday to Saturday from 1pm to 3pm which conveniently coincides with our Flappy Hour!

Fan Decorating - As well as our mutant flamingos we'll have a whole bunch of paper fans for people to decorate in our craft dome and then keep.

Flappy Hour - From 1pm to 3pm Wednesday to Saturday we'll be gifting our camp cocktail The Featherless Flamingo. We may even dress up like flamingos for this!

The Star Dome - We've got a 24' geodesic dome that we're covering in about 1600 programable LEDs. It will be full of couches and pillows and will have weird and wacky soundscapes playing of an evening.

The Love Game - Swing by with a friend, loved one or complete stranger on Thursday afternoon to play 'A Game For Falling In Love' and see if sparks fly. This "game" is based on psychological research and purports to encourage players to fall in love. We figure the playa is an ideal testing ground!

Flow Arts Skillshare - We've got a bunch of flow artists in camp who are willing to share their skills. Between them they've got poi, staff, hoops, and meteor dart covered plus there's probably others I've forgotten too! Come along and try your hand or bring your own props and jam with us!

Sculpture Garden - We have a space out the front of camp we're we will be displaying sculptural pieces made by out campmates.

We'd love you to come visit us!

If you're still looking for a camp (especially if you're an Aussie) we do have a few spots left.

- We have communal dinners each night.
- Everyone helps with running the Flappy Hour, serving dinner, running our craft sessions (no more than 4 hours across the week + pack down)
- We have communal shade for our tents.
- We would love for you to make use of our dome, sound system and/or roadside bar to host an event or workshop
- We would love you to bring some art to display in our sculpture garden.

Chris and I met at the 2013 burn and in May this year we tied the knot officially.

You may have seen the thread about our wedding rings made from nails dug out of the man burn ashes that came from ePlaya's own TamaraKay.

Well we're going to be swapping burner inspired vows on Monday night of burn week and YOU'RE INVITED!!

Where - The Flamingo Trap (4:15 & D)

When - Monday 7:30pm

Come along and get the week started on a celebratory note with what will likely be a VERY SILLY but also very heartfelt ceremony.

Our vows will be ten principle inspired, GreyCoyote will be officiating, Gaminwench will the the flower girl and we're open to suggestions if anyone else wants to get involved.

There will be crazy sweet sparkling wine and probably some beer. After the ceremony we'll head to Fish Out of Water for gumbo made by the wonderful Sunbeam56!

I've just found out that apparently someone in has been saying they're part of The Flamingo Trap to add weight and legitimate sounding details to their story as part of a ticket selling scam.

No one in The Flamingo Trap currently has tickets to spare, in fact we've still got one camper without tickets.

If anyone in our camp were to be selling tickets it would likely be me since I'm a regular poster here.

If someone tells yo they camp with us and have tickets to sell please don't believe them.

This is the basic idea;

In the lead up to the burn we’re collecting names and addresses of folks who would like to receive a postcard from the playa. Then once we’re out in the dust we’ll be recruiting random passersby to write a message on those pre-addressed postcards. Once they’ve written a postcard to a random they’ll be able to fill their own address in (or a friend’s) so that someone can write them a postcard too!

I meant to do this last year and time got away from me but it is happening this year dammit!

I've had a bunch of postcards printed with awesome photos sourced from here

I've made a google doc for people to submit their (or their friend's/family's) names and addresses.

I've got the project listed in the event guide (hopefully the book too!).

And I've made a Facebook event.

The only thing I'm missing is folks who want to receive a postcard!

I'm hoping some of you can help with that!
