Easy going guy, looking for a camp
Easy going guy, looking for a camp
I am going to Burning Man for the first time this year. Having not been there before, I am looking for a camp to help share some of the infrastructure. I am looking for a pretty laid back camp that accepts Burgins. I'm a laid back, 38 y/o professional guy. I'm certainly willing to help out, but also looking for a camp that allows their members have the freedom to explore the amazing space. Please let me know if you have availability and think it might be a good match. Thanks!

Hey Borrager!
Camps don't always spot posts from compatible campers in time (they're quite busy during this last month) so I would encourage you--if you haven't already--to write a few emails or messages to a few camps in this forum. Pick carefully, and write to them with why you'd be a good fit to further their mission. Be specific! Offer a skill--bartending, building, cooking, cleaning, driving a big vehicle, licensed massage, dance instruction--whatever you're strong at. (Most camps are about offering an experience to the city rather than having the support of their citizens being their first concern.)
You might also search the 2015 Theme Camp listings by keyword, and contact likely camps asking if they need a hand.

Or check regional groups--always check those! Rideshares or local builds are great things.

A theme camp is not a must--just sometimes a plus. I personally have spent just as much time camped with only one campmate as I have camped with a group, and more years unplaced than "placed".
Good luck to you.

Re: Easy going guy, looking for a camp
Thanks for the tips! I am also considering going solo as well, but I am trying to weigh the pros and cons of doing so, given that I don't exactly know what I'm in for, and it sounds like a week on the playa can be complicated. Thus, I thought a camp might ease the transition. But I'm still definitely considering the solo route. I'm trying to read up as much as I can.
