Theme Camp Application Help
Theme Camp Application Help
I offer my services to help with anyones theme camp app. I've done my previous camp's for the past two years from scratch and have received excellent feedback on it from the placers. Since i'm not doing it this year, I wanted to offer help to any others who may want someone to help bring their ideas together or to give it a read over and feedback. If I can be of assistance to your camp, please let me know.
the journey is the destination...

Re: Theme Camp Application Help
Hi Caro-
You have the same name as my sister, so I forecast a good burner relationship... I am starting a camp with a friend and don't really have an idea how to get started. Is there an application form somewhere now that we need to fill out? I haven't been able to find one. Do we keep posting here or do you want my email address?
Thanks, Sunny

Yeah that search doesn't actually find the application. The first link is to a page on burningman.org that has a link but it's broken...Elderberry wrote:Try this: http://bit.ly/1CUksaqSunnyDixon wrote:Hi Caro-

Sunny the theme camp application form is found by clicking on the "Participation" link when you log into your Burner Profile. This is the link currently https://profiles.burningman.com/participate/brc/ but the forms are not live yet, there will be an announcement made via Jack Rabbit Speaks when applications open and you'll presumably be able to access the Camp Placement Questionnaire, Disabled Persons Vehicle Application, Art Installation Questionnaire, and BRC Media Application via your burner profile as it was in 2014. Although by the time that happens the borg may have updated the link to be .org rather than .com since they're in the process of moving everything over.
The application is web based so rather than a PDF that you download, fill out and then send back in you just enter everything into a series of text boxes on the web page. This means finding a copy of last years form to look over to get an idea of what it's like would probably be difficult unless someone had **cough cough**painstakingly taken the time to copy and paste everything into a separate document then reformat it properly to be able to work on the application offline....**cough cough**

I was going with communal effort and not being a dick just for the sake of it.
No amount of self reliance was going to find anyone that questionnaire.

Ah yes, of course. Making a sample form available now is a great idea. I printed it out myself. Thank you!Jovankat wrote:I was going with communal effort and not being a dick just for the sake of it.![]()

No problem. I had it sitting in my Google docs already so I just had to publish it. Easy peasy.

Re: Theme Camp Application Help
Hey, thanks for the info and the form. I can start working on the form now. Since I'm just starting to plan the camp and haven't done this before, the form will give me some ideas on what I have to think thru in order to get an idea of what it takes to put a camp together.
What's involved in getting early access for setting up the camp? Is that part of the camp application process?
The camp will include handicap access and a handicap accessible art car so we can do playa tours. I'm hoping for placement that will allow grid access so we can charge golf carts and wheelchairs for drop-ins. Anyone know about this?

It might be useful to spend some time looking around here for you answers. Nearly all of them will have been answered before. The board has a search function but you tend to get better results Googling for your question and including "ePlaya" in the search query.

Hey, thanks Jovancat. Interesting to look at even if I can't get more than, maybe, 2 people to share my vision for a book burning theme camp. And thanks for violating the new, gotta-be-a-dick principle. And I suppose the original poster here is violating that new principle also. Funny what is tolerated and what is frowned on, principle wise.

Early access is for core infrastructure and established camps. I would not plan on EA passes if you are a first time applicant.SunnyDixon wrote:What's involved in getting early access for setting up the camp? Is that part of the camp application process?
However, you can always plan for next year and the years after. Submit a quality application. Meet all your obligations. Be 100% MOOP free at the end of the event. Etc. Doing so will establish a good record with the Org allowing better placement in future years as well as EA passes.
Good luck!

Re: Theme Camp Application Help
That's not true at all, early access is available to all placed theme camps. I've been involved in two first time theme camps who have been given early access. How many passes you get depends on what you're building and how big your camp is and it's worth keeping in mind that the passes are limited and highly sort after when you make your request but as long as your request is reasonable if you get placement you should get early entry too.digital wrote:Early access is for core infrastructure and established camps. I think he might have been thinking about the directed sale tickets. Those are only for previously placed and proven theme camps.

Re: Theme Camp Application Help
It's my understanding that the org would prefer to keep EA to core infrastructure and established camps. If exceptional firSt time applicants make the cut, excellent. However, it is also my understanding that spreading the 'good news' that any applicant can get EA is frowned upon (thus taking EA passes from those who need them). I'm not sure why you want to break this silent rule, but continue on...Jovankat wrote:That's not true at all, early access is available to all placed theme camps. Re: Theme Camp Application Help
Didn't know that was a 'silent' rule. But think about it logically. If their theme camp is good enough to be approved and placed, it would probably not be possible for them to do it without early arrival passes. Why wouldn't they be entitled to them as any other theme camp?digital wrote:It's my understanding that the org would prefer to keep EA to core infrastructure and established camps. Actually, now that I think about it, I know this is true. We had a bunch of guys that camped with us for years that decided to start their own theme camp. They sent their application in, were approved and placed and they got EA passes.

Thanks Jovankat for the form content!
It does indicate that the BORG has huge amount of data on placed PnP which they used in their new policies.

Err maybe because I've never heard of it before? That might have something to do with it being silent* though...digital wrote:I'm not sure why you want to break this silent rule, but continue on...
Also I'm pretty sure you're wrong. The land reserved for placed camps becomes free for all once the gates open. If a placed theme camp isn't given at least one or two early entry passes they will have no way to claim their plot before the gates open. Doesn't that mean that every placed camp has to be given early entry to be able to qualify as a placed camp?
You're right that there are definitely efforts made to impress upon people that the passes are limited and shouldn't be hoarded or requested if not necessary but I did cover that in my previous post.
*Does Silent mean existent?

Yes. And yes. Theme Camps are expected to be all set up by the time Gate opens to all ticket-holders.Jovankat wrote:...The land reserved for placed camps becomes free for all once the gates open.
