The process for Will Call Transfers unfortunately allows room for scammers to rip people off. One of the worst things about this is that you may not even know you've been ripped off until you are at the Box Office. And by then you're kind of beat unless you've done some heavy documentation of the whole process. [And even then it's no sure thing.]
The stress level for people without a ticket is remarkably high. Their sense of urgency increases as the event draws nearer and this is one of the reasons why a scammer will be successful. They'll take advantage of the situation for sure and people looking for tickets may be too blinded by the prospect of actually getting a ticket that they may not see some obvious warning signs.
If you happen to be selling your tickets by way of a Will Call Transfer there are some things you can do to help alleviate the stress the buyer will invariably feel. Providing a scan or photo of your drivers license is a lot to ask of a stranger. But so is asking a stranger to send you a grand without giving them much else in return. [Beyond some digital invoice.] Maybe send an email that includes some transfer of ownership statement to the buyer and copy TicketFly or even the BM Box Office?
If you are selling your tickets by way of a Will Call Transfer please consider that the person you sell them to will be a total basket-case over the worry they're gonna end up scammed. If you have a social media account then add one another as friends. Maybe give the buyer your mom's phone number and have them call her for reassurance that you're a terrific kid with a kind heart?
In some ways we're all friends anyway in that we all consider the playa a home of sorts. If you can't go this year and are selling your tickets then it's still very easy for you to participate. You can participate by offering as much peace of mind as you can to whomever you're selling the tickets to. And, trust me, the good vibes you create in doing that will mean as much as any that are found on the playa.
Anyway, seems to me there are far more instances where Will Call Transfers happen without a hitch than there are scams. But if you're selling your tickets then, yeah, please know that people will be grateful for the chance to buy them. But they'll be infinitely more thankful if you give them some serious peace of mind to go along with the sale.

Re: Will Call Transfers - Buyers and Sellers and Scammers
Thank you for this post and the ways to avoid being scammed. I was in talks to purchase WC tix and the person was not really willing to do some simple things I asked to alleviate my stress. Since we can only afford to buy tickets once I passed. This post is filled with excellent ideas. I truly appreciate the time and thought you put in.
Hope to see you in the dust!
