Don't you just hate it when you're just browsing, then you hit a thread that contains a picture you aren't authorized to see or something you want to respond to and you have to scroll to the top of the page and login and then you hit the "return to previous page" link and it brings you to the main index page EVERY SINGLE TIME regardless of where you last were?

If I'd wanted to go to the main index page, I'd have hit the "Board Index" link below it.

And yet I fall for it Every Single Time!!!!

I don't see a 'Return to previous page' link. I see a link to take me to the Index of the department that I was last browsing. If I was looking at a particular costume thread and had to sign in I would have a couple of choices afterwards. I can hit Board Index or return to the costumes and clothing section. But not the exact thread I was reading.

This is the first screen that pops up when I log in. Just for a few seconds, mind you. Just long enough to entice me into reacting.

Interesting how differently everybody accesses the site. I've never experienced that problem ever because I never browse the site without logging in first. (Actually, I use the option to keep me logged in so I usually don't have to think twice about it.) However, knowing this behavior always happens, a possible workaround might be to copy the URL of the page you are on prior to logging in, so you can then just paste it back in your browser and be sure you get right to where you want were at.

The thing that bothers me is that when someone includes a link in a post, that link always opens up in the same window rather than in a new tab or window--pretty much for the same reasons you describe when you log in.

I felt compelled to complete your sentence up there so nobody would be disappointed with the outcome and spar with the validity of your instruction.

• Shift + Click = open link in new window
• Ctrl + Click = open link in new tab in the background
• Shift + Ctrl + Click = open link in new tab and switch to that new tab
• F5 = Refresh
• Alt + Left = Go "back"
• Alt + Right = Go "forward"
• Ctrl + L = Move cursor to Location (URL) Bar. Alt + D works too.
• Ctrl + K = Move cursor to Search Box
• Ctrl + J = Open downloads

On Macs: use Cmd in place of Ctrl; Option in place of Alt.

So if you want to login and then return to your old page because the link is useless, you could login and hit Alt+Left a few times to return to your old page.
