Spamhaus blacklisting

So apparently the forum thinks my IP is blacklisted, but when I click its link to Spamhaus to see if that's really the case, the IP is not listed as having any issues. Can you please check to see what may be causing this kind of issue?

That exact same thing happened to me a couple of days ago when I tried to post something. Actually it happened again just now! Rebooting didn't help.

Also, I get a page that claims to be checking my connection security every time before it will take me to eplaya. Is anyone else getting that?

Yes, I've been getting that "checking to see if the site connection is secure", followed by multiple "verify you are human" and "I am human", and "click all images of hot air balloons" (and sometimes "helicopters"). Getting on here this time was the first time I actually timed it: 27 minutes before opening up!

I mentioned it to both Sham and Trilo, and they're looking into it... we'll see!

So, this time, it took one hour, thirty and a half minutes, with 30 "I am human", 46 "verify you are human", 30 "click hot air balloons", and 30 "click helicopters". Yesterday's was only 27 minutes... it's getting worse. Wondering if others are getting long stretches of this, and giving up before getting in. Those, we wouldn't even know about.

I sure hope this gets sorted. It's pretty frustrating!

I get the checking page 90% of the time, the URL bar shows Burningman.org, I have never gotton the helicopters or baloons page and it goes away pretty quick.
Today I got the verify you are human button, I lied and said yes and got right in to Eplaya.

BTW, I usually get in pretty quickly at least. Not sure why you're having long delays like that Patsh.

I get a similar feeling when I clear my browsing history, and then clear it again to check, and it reads, “You have no history.”

Is this ever going to be fixed? Now it's impacting other IPs, sometimes even just after they worked previously!

According to Spamhaus, this is a known problem with phpBB misinterpreting errors as blocked IPs because they don't accept public DNS resolver queries - like those that come from Cloudfare or Google's DNS services.

I am not an expert on any of this any of this, but from other postings, this is a well-documented and old problem, and doesn't seem to be a priority getting fixed.

Rather than rely on this broken anti-spam plugin or these easily defeated captcha systems, can you switch this forum to use some burner-themed forum questions or something of that nature? It'd be way lower tech and probably hard to defeat by automated means.

BBadger, this may not impact you, but it is a good place to bring it up. Be aware of open VPN relays as well. Many, if not most, of those IP blocks are being actively blocked all over the Internet.

No one should be using them anyway. They are a major security risk as the relay point has access to all the content in clear text.

Just a heads up. Many people are reporting that when they try to post, a notice comes up that they're blacklisted. This is a glitch in the software meant to keep the spammers at bay. Hopefully this will all be cleared up very soon.

I'm still working with the tech team on proper fixes to this and a number of other annoying issues, but in the meantime I believe I have a temporary fix in place to keep the spamhaus blocklist error at bay.
