Since it's one I had as well!!

We did... but... he went and used a different spelling to try to throw us off. Same worm. I call stuff like this "patterning", because the various spammers use a pattern to evade we who try to annihilate them.

You would be surprised all the pattern variations and stuff that show up on here. Once the spammers find a loophole they exploit the crud out of it. Mostly as a foothold into the board for later poisonous games. Usually they'll put a test name in using the pattern - if it's not culled, then they exploit the weakness (we have 2 of those working right now - look at the recent screen name signups and you'll see these patterns...)

What this methodology doesn't take into account is live moderators/admins monitoring the board daily. Were this a one-person board, it'd have a heyday. Now that we have (approx.) 24/7 coverage here, watching for these, and with an awesome Admin staph backing us, we're slowly making headway against the phpBB abuser scum.

So there ya have it from the Shadow's perspective. That's why I lurk cloaked - it's easy to watch them when they don't know I'm here... I had them scatter when they saw my name pop up and I wasn't a mod - was hard to catch them. Now... we can see the evil lurking in the hearts of spammers... The weed of spam bears bitter fruit... etc. etc. etc...

Back to normal mode...
