Many Opens, and most Post attempts, fail

Post by Canoe » Sun Aug 25, 2019 5:14 am

It's been tedious to say the least, trying to use eplaya Saturday Aug 24 and on Sunday Aug 25.
Opening a thread to read it may or may not open the page. Less than 50% success rate.
When one loads, it can take over a minute to load. Rarely opens in a normal time frame.
Some of the successes open with some very odd formatting. Around 1/20 to 1/30.
Some of the attempts partially load a page, without formatting. Around 1/50.
Frefreshing an index page works less than 1/5 attempts. Sometimes less than 1/10 attempts.
On posting,
- Preview works maybe 2/3 tries, sometimes only 1/3
- Submit hangs almost alway, usually without any apparent running response on the tab
- rarely Submits and refreshes the thread with your post/edit
- when Submit hangs, it may or may not have posted, less than 1/2 chance
- when it hangs, a refresh (when that works) on the index page can show the Replies count; if the Replies count didn't increment, frefreshing the hung Submit tab until it shows it working, has so far worked for me to get a post or update to actually Submit
Uploading an image attachment works partially. It seems to almost always accept the drag&drop of the file, getting the name right, but then it hangs and doesn't present the option of Place Inline. Delete the image, and try again. Ususally works within three tries.

So unless one is very persistent, the site is near unusable.

Number of users seems to vary from ~900 to ~1,400.

What I see is the site is very busy.
Try to limit to one tab loading at once.
The site is (barely) coping the stress.

~1600 online and all goes in one click and not excessive waits/ failures (last 10 requests)

(except for posting / editing posts, those are lasting waits and unresponsive)

I've let Trilo know (if he gets the message), but I have no idea who in IT is left here & not dealing with BRC now. I'm limiting tabs as well, which is making it a PITA to crush spammers. Wheee?

It's acting normal now. 237 users.
It was brutal trying to post and edit. Taking up to ~20 range to submit. Rarely had feedback of any page rather than hung blank upon Submit. Had to refresh index and thread to see if/when posts/edits went through, with those refreshes were taking ten to thirty attempts just to see the fresh, a few even more.
