Re: Is eplaya falling apart?
It’s all but dead.
Today’s younger set doesn’t do the old internet forum thing. They’ve all gone to shorter attention span, instant stuff, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
Also, the Burning Man website makes it hard to even find.
It’s just a tiny print thing at the very bottom of their home page under “Stuff and Things”.
They either don’t really want to promote Eplaya’s existence, or they really suck at web design.
A lot of artists have that problem… they make things arty but forget to make them practical.

Re: Is eplaya falling apart?
Eplaya has a lot of archived information from very experienced burners, available by search or Google search.
It's much better organized by subforums than competitors.
The quality of answers on ePlaya is much better than the competition.
Many ePlayans are long time playa department volunteers.
Social media platforms come and go in their different constituencies. The mighty FB is being eclipsed by Insta, and no doubt Mark has the next wave of privacy sucking in development. There are many people on the Internet who are incapable of or resistant to search. They just "ask the Internet."
If you look at the Burning Man Census, the event is dependent on virgins, and many are young. So they are going to choose certain social media platforms as part of their identity. One of the most useful contributions veterans can make is to bring virgins and orient them, rather than having virgins oriented by questionable experts on social media.
FB has the main group, a no snark group, and more. Reddit has some groups. Both have renegade branches.
It's really up to us to contribute content that makes ePlaya useful. I do a news search every so often for Burning Man and throw useful articles ePlaya way. The Gerlach Tourist Bureau topic was a place for unique information in one place.
It is also possible to post on the competition links to ePlaya topics.
It is not hard to be more useful than the competition!

I am for one am glad these forums are still around. I was away from BM for some years (2010-2020), and, in returning, I found many more online BM presences. This one is special. Thanks to all of you who have made it so. I hope to contribute too as time goes on

In answer to your question . . . I really think TWO WHOLE ABSENT BURNS have been more deleterious to ePlaya than anything else. Sure, there's been a ton of activity on FB and Reddit as well, but normally, this place is humming, before and after the event.
We are admittedly rude at times, but we have an AMAZING archive of information, so anyone who doesn't make use of it . . . is honestly at a deficit.
Scaredlings: please google your Burning Man question, and put eplaya in the search bar. Thank you.
